full floating rear to emerg. on rear help ?

I was researching the whole B motor with h55f and converting the drum on drive shaft adapter for my 78 fj45. When Poser informed me parts are discontinued.

So that leads me to asking all of you if you have done a conversion of a newer brake system with emergency cable running to the rear drum and converted your full floating axle ?

Comments and pics appreciated ?

Cheers

How about a 70 series full floater?

There are 4X series full floaters with the hand brake. I was able to find one local here in AZ. As far as I know the brakes are the same as the semi floater 40 and 60 series.

How about an 80 FF rear narrowed to use the 40 FF shafts. Drum in disk parking brake.

I'll admit I have a few cruiser projects on the go now and reading this I'm going to bring my cruiser manuals in the house for some reading to follow along on the recommendations.
Thanks
I will now be looking into this a little deeper.

did this on my FJ55... elocking disk brake FF rear axle with Ebrake drums built into dicks/hubs. narrowed for free by me, and running a Nitro cut to length short side shaft with the extra long splines for the locker. diff is right where it should be, and I gained about 3" of width. Ebrakes works GREAT! about 6 clicks to fully lock the brake enough to hold it on a steep hill and theres about 10 more clicks left in the pull handle. FWIW, the brake components for semi and full floating axles are interchangable, but you have to use the similar vintage....ie, the rear brakes changed sometime about 80 to the later style with e brake, so you're not going to swap brake parts off a say 72 axle with a say 84 axle...

The date change was 8/80 with the 81 modle which is also the start date of the split case. So brake parts from this date forward until the end of the 60 should work. As for parts off the shelf I doubt the hand brake cable for a stock width 40 would work with a wider axles. 60 series would be closer but to long on the part going to the handle. Did you find something stock or custom made?

Anyone have a part number for a FJ45LP-B LHD parking brake cable on 81 and later? I believe the RHD in Australia had the setup with the parking brake on the back of the transfer case.

I have the 78 full floating axle on the truck, I also have a 1988 fj60 e brake on drums.
I will have to look into it but thinking of taking the backing plate and brakes off the 88 and installing it on the 78.
I can fab up a cable that can work with the original e handle on dash.
Just an idea at this point until I look at the shop manuals.

Brake backing plates/axles have significantly different bolt patterns.

When you look at the backing plate where it meets the axle and compare the two, you will see what I am talking about.
