Full float 80 series axle in a 60

Hi guys, was thinking about putting a 80 series full float factory e lock axle in my 60, I am a machinist and welder so the spring perches are no big deal for me, I have read that the 80 axle is 4.10 and also read it is 4.11, which is correct, and will I be able to gear the front to match without spending a ton of money

Don't sweat the gear ratio. I run a spring under axle fzj80 elocker ff on my fj55... you will need 16" rims all round and spacers up front. That axle is 63" wheel mount face to wheel mount face, while your front axle is only 58.5. Ideally, you have 1/2" more width up front. I took 3 1/8" out of my passenger side tube to get me a 59 7/8" wheel mount distance in back and run 1 1/2" spacers on the front of my factory 57" wheel mount distance front fj55 axle... bear in mind, narrowing your rear and using stock 16s, you only gain about 3/4" of track; the better fix might be to keep the 80 full width and extend the front to 63 1/2" ... hth

I run a 1997 FF FZJ80 rear in my 62. The rear is wider than the front and it tracks fine on the freeway at 90mph and wheels fine. I used a kit from Rough Stuff Specialties and chevy leafs. I have a spare 4.11 ring and pinion gear (no diff) that you can have cheap to regear your front if you need to match. I run 4.88's with my 35's right now.

So on your FJ62 in that shot, how are the rear wheels at stuffing in the fender wells? Looks tight.

I don't rub in the rears at all. I used to but I went with Interco Bird Dog rims which have a lot of backspacing or whatever the proper term is which keeps the wheels out away from the body. I assume this makes my scrub radius on the front a bit rough but no failures or issues.
