i have a 92 fj80 and I'm having some fuel issues. I've searched and searched so I've come to the conclusion that i need to change a fuel filter sock in the tank and the inline fuel filter, I'm also understanding the tank will have to drop. can anyone tell me how big of a job this will be. is it cut and dry for a couple of straps and disconnect some hoses your done? any advise will be helpful and if my truck still isn't running after these replacements ill be searching for hours on end again. thanks.

you don't need to drop the tank. there is an access panel in the interiorunder the second row seats under the carpet somewhere.

x2.

Tank needs to be dropped on an 88-90 62 series 3FE, but NOT on a 91-92 80 series 3FE (or on any 80 series, I imagine).

yup, its under your second row. remove the seats and pull the carpet foward from moulding before cargo area and look for this hatch

remove the three screws and youll see this plate on top of tank

remove those 8 hex head bolts and the whole fuel pump sending unit pulls out w/ sock attached. HTH

Be careful too ther is a clearish poly gasket for the banjo fitting. Maybe you ought to order a new one for the job get a buddy to help you with the seat. Takes about an hour or so. Clean up some first so trash doesn't fall into the tank. I think you're going to end up with a new fuel pump though. A clogged sock is kinda rare unless you know you have some gunk in your tank and why.
