Does anyone know a local shop that sells or will build a fuel tank? I'd like ditch the in cab tank on my FJ40 and put one under the rear bed. Downey used to make one that was similar to an old confer design, but they stopped production.
Have you spoken to Garrett? . I'm not far from having to figure this out as well. I'd like to drop my seats an inch or two and can't with that tank in the way. There are oem options that I recall working well also
I've only talked with him in context of when i'm ready to have him cut and reweld the height of the seat frame that he's game to do it. I'm on the hunt for seats that a smaller/sit lower (I currently have Corbeau Baja XRS seats on sliders) and exploring new gas tank options for under the bend.
The other option I am thinking about is modifying the seat frame so its two independent frames for the driver and passenger sides. Then lowering the drivers side by 1.5".
Or i'll just give up and go back to the factory bench seat setup

Did you ask Mark if he had any of the poly Downey tanks on hand? He used to carry them….
I have an old rear hung steel tank I dont have a use for, it came from a buddies ‘80 FJ40. Can shoot you some photos if it piques your interest, free to good home.
The economical but new tank method is an S-10 tank installed between the rear shock crossmember and the rear frame. Well documented on the forum over the years.
