Hi,

Yet again I look for advice from my favorite forum and the guru's.

My vehicle's fuel economy was poor for many months. and as I have never changed my injector I decided to try this route.

My mechanic suddenly called me now and informed that the injector part numbers match but the color on my existing injectors is green and the new injectors I have bought are blue.

I have no idea what this means. I thought if you match the part no. that it. Can somebody pls let me know what this color band means and whether its OK to install my engine with the blue band injectors. will there be a difference?

Really appreciate your quick advice. Thanks.

I just couldn't find anything on the NipponDenso color rating for this injector. Anyway I have fixed it on, now I'm trying to observe the fuel consumption difference.

After the change of injectors and plugs I noticed a huge difference in the engine noise and the power.

:bounce:Please can you give some more detail on thing's such as:
  • Did you get a check engine light (code)?
  • All 8 injectors?
  • Noise & power difference before & after?
  • What was MPG?
  • What was your driving style; lite or heavy foot, City/HWY?
  • Do you regular have cabin air on auto (fan on)?
  • What grade of fuel?
  • What year, LC/LX and mileage?

I've notice my MPG slightly decline over the years, and have wondered if injectors & coils would make much of a difference.

Will be interesting to hear back from you on your MPG after a few tanks of gas,

Hi 2001LC,

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Pls find my comments below

  • Did you get a check engine light (code)? No Engine check light
  • All 8 injectors? Yes, I replaced all 8 injectors
  • Noise & power difference before & after? Noise of the engine completely changed, now its almost like the engine is not running (I have clocked about 175,000KM), power increase was very noticeable, suddenly the SUV leaps forward with the slightest press of the accelerator.
  • What was MPG? I was getting about 7.5mpg not I get about 8.5mpg (I live in the city, so very very short runs in traffic)
  • What was your driving style; lite or heavy foot, City/HWY? Mainly city (stop and go), HWY I get about 14MPG
  • Do you regular have cabin air on auto (fan on)? My Aircon is on all the time, fan usually set to 2 or 3.
  • What grade of fuel? I use 90 Octane
  • What year, LC/LX and mileage? I have a 2005 LC Cygnus ( I believe its more or less the same as LX470) with 175,000km (108,000 Miles).

Over all, I haven't seen a noticeable improvement in fuel economy, however I do see a big difference in the engine noise (smooth) and power gain. Hope this helps you. This could be because my new injectors may be having a higher flow rate (I still couldn't verify that).

Cheers.

Thank you @Vampo for response. Interesting you've changed injectors with only ~108,000 miles on them.

8.5 is ~12% better than 7.5, which is quite a bit. But this is very low for a 2UZ-fe engine, unless you have a very heavy foot or load. I assume this is a kilometers per liter conversion issue not actually MPG (miles per gallon). Regardless you did show and improvement. But how much was from injectors or spark plugs or combinations is hard to say. I assumed you meant spark plugs when you said plugs?.

When I changed my spark plugs I didn't see any improvement in MPG, but they looks so good I've keep old ones for spares. My MPG started dropping around 100K miles and I've been wondering; would new coils & injectors improve performance.

Did your mechanic make any statement about the condition of your old spark plugs?

I would recommend removing and inspecting plugs every 30k miles or so , not for just the condition of the plugs but to clean the threads as mine where very tight all the way out and was praying for them not to strip a thread, as after 100k miles the function of the plugs where good but was starting to seize in the cylinder head.

Even though the plugs looked good my idle has become smoother. But no change in mpg it still just guzzles.

Ps. Forte fuel cleaner is good for cleaning injectors, once a year I add it to my tank, it gets rid of water from the fuel tank and cleans the nozzles, unsure how it does this but that's what the Rep told me, not sure if they sell it in the U.S. but it's the only fuel cleaner I have seen good results from.

The diesel version is superb at getting smoky diesels through an MOT. We used to run them on 100% cleaner from a jug with the fuel lines in for a good clean.

Not a bad idea to clean plugs.

I use BG's 44K cleaner every year or two.

What does the VX stand for?

Hi,

Yes this was converted from KMPL to MPG. I have converted using US gallons so this should be accurate.

Also yes I meant spark plugs, and the mechanic really didn't mention anything special as I just instructed him to change them to the new ones.

Few interesting things here.

I currently get an average MPG summer of 15.69 and winter of 14.55. I believe my lite foot driving style is reason I get this good average. This show on how long my front brake pads last (~100k miles) in city driving. Your low MPG and comment on huge power, leads me to believe your driving style is quit different then mine. That fact your MPG is so low, although it improved a bit, is inconclusive as it is way below normal IMHO.

My MPG is good, but has drop ~6% from pre 100K mile on odometer. I've been looking for years into what could be causing this slight drop. From changes in gasoline quality/blend, viscosity of oil's, too age of system parts from injectors to O2's.

I've noticed noise difference as well, which has me questioning when/if fuel injectors should be changed. I started a thread to get some feedback on the subject When to replace fuel injectors.

The consensus is injectors need regular cleaning by adding fuel system cleaner to gas tank. A more aggressive cleaning by attaching special tool to fuel rails and using BG fuel injector cleaner then follow up with BG 44k, is the recommended course by BG. My current thinking is to remove and have cleaned, and tested for spray pattern & flow rate.

Would be very interesting to get your old injector and run tests. Any possibility?
