Fuel hose going bottom to K&N cuter/charger? …

That "fuel" line is likely used as a Diff Breather line since it would be right at the right size. Both front and rear go to the K&N filter?
Is that type filter for air?

And I have receipts of Gary from
Mudrak working in this rig when I was sold it. But I have a feeling it’s like he only did a couple things and this guy tried all sorts of stuff in his backyard .,, just messing with everything … my lord.
I’m dedicated to getting this rig right though so I’m In This B…

Ok so it is just a diff breather line - that for some reason had fuel filter on it ….
lol like I can’t even make that up..

But it goes to the back diff too alongside the thick blue air supply line

So my question to you guys now is: Why do diffs need a “breather line”? And why would a PO use the k&N filter charger inbetween for that breathing to happen?

Bec I have a lack of knowledge on this….

Good fuel hose is tough. When I installed my direct read oil pressure gauge I used fuel hose from the back of the gauge to the engine side of the firewall over the skinny nylon oil line. That way if the oil line failed I would not get a lap or face full of hot oil. I have use it as armor coat for electrical wiring that could be subject to abrasion in a certain area.
Having a air filter on a breather hose is likely overkill but so what.

Every diff has breathers and people extend them typically for water crossings so they don't get water in the diff.

Any kind of filter works for the end of the breather lots use fuel filters

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^

If you didn't have breathers you would be blowing oil out of all the seals, especially when running ARB's.

Got it … ya I just don’t know these things but I’m learning.
Everyone should know that the ARB system has been disconnected electrically so I won’t be blowing any oil anywhere anytime soon but just trying to address all issues while Jim C has my carb ….

In school they tell you the problem. I real life figuring out what the problem is, is actually the hard part compared to finding a solution. There are many ways to skin a cat - no doubt none approved or recommended by cats.

Sorry brother, you've been frankensteined. I'm working on moving my rig close to OEM myself; tho .. I'm just dealing with the carb and the distributor.

very true and yet very philosophical at the same time lol. thank you for that.

I’m just confused on why the PO would connect breathers routed through a fuel filter .. like wtf? Smoking crack…
Not defending the prev owner. One thought that comes to mind is to keep dust out of the differential.

But - I actually thinking the PO just biffed logic.

Every thought/idea I had at the time, seemed like a good one, later on many were found out to actually be bad. I'm thankful for the PO's didn't scrap out or destroy the vehicles - at least they left us something to work with.

I can easily deal with simple mechanical system; un-packing some modern two dozen plus IC chip brain box with one of a billion bad diode/resisters and nothing works is a true PIA. Fuel injustice system work great until they don't, good luck fixing that in the field well enough to at least limp home.

no totally agree and i dont want to hate on any PO !!! ever!! - they were experimenting and having fun. but the guy died pretty suddenly and so his son sold it to me and coud tell me NOTHING of what his father did to it. so its like when your receiving something you think looks great rns great and is great, but then you start reverse engineering what the guy did and start to question thought process.
BUT THEN you remember it doesnt matter what his thought process was (its none of my business) - its my car now im just gunna make things correct.

thats the beauty of a forum like this, with such helpful people - ppl willing to go into the s*** with me and try to backwards engineer stuff sbout this rig. over the past 4 years yall have helped me so much. I may make some mistakes here and here and over complicate the thought process but ultimstely i rely on everyones trusted words.
thanks guys for real

Okay, your rig is hacked a little. But you are really really not understanding what you are looking at. The hoses to your axles are simply extended breathers with filters on the ends to keep dirt or whatever from getting in (not needed, but not "wrong" either). A better way to terminate the breather is into a bell jar, but for most people and most uses that is well into above and beyond territory.

There is nothing unusual about your axle breathers. It is not done wrong and there is no reason to criticize that aspect of the rig.

Did you actually think that fuel was routed into your axle??????

BTW, your ARB air actuated locking differentials do not have air bags in them. Any more than your axle housings have gasoline in them.

I promise you, other people have worked on your rig besides Gary. It is nearly 50 years old for s***'s sake. And Gary does not do hack work.

You are not being jerked around by Gary or Georg. The reason that they can not take your rig on short notice is that they are both highly sought specialists in a rabid cult market with a long list of work waiting to be done. Your rig is most certainly not "too big a job". The opposite in fact. Most of what they do is work other than standard maintenance and service. Projects, conversions, upgrades and one off custom work. When you turn to the Land Cruiser specialists arena to have your rig worked on, you *might* get lucky and there will be expected holes in the schedule where small jobs can be slipped in. Or you might have to get in line and wait weeks or even months. If anything is working against you in terms of getting in their que it is that when a rig comes in full of years of hacks, odd choices and uninformed "previous owner stuff" .... NO ONE enjoys working on that. And it can be time consuming taking care of all the piddly s***, even if it is not brain intensive. Personally I hate that kind of work because I feel bad about charging for the amount of time it take to deal with it all. But if Gary or George, or anyone else for in the game doesn't charge for the time... which could just as easily be spent on work that DOES call for the skill and knowledge that they are bringing to the table... well that is a quick way to go broke. :(
