I'm hoping I might be able to get some help here before taking the car to the mechanic. I'm having an issue where my fuel gauge is throwing off wildly varying readings. I can start the car and it shows the car as having only 1/4 tank (after I recently filled up), then as I drive it keeps going up to eventually show a relatively accurate reading. The "accurate" reading will still vary a bit each time I turn off and restart the car.
Does anyone know what the root cause of this might be? Thanks!

So, I was able to find an old thread "DIY: Fuel Sender Replacement 2004". Unfortunately it wasn't clear if replacing the sending unit did the trick or if there are other problems, so the input from anyone that has actually solved the problem would be much appreciated.

Which year? LC or LX?
Had similar issue and I DIY replaced sending unit and got it fixed. Mine is a 04 LC.

Thanks, '07 LC
How long did it take you? Did you replace the fuel pump at the same time?
Yes I did, easy job. If you buy the whole assembly, but expensive but very easy job. I opted to buy pump and sending unit separately. This video helped.

Also replace fuel filter in the engine bay if you haven't already done that.
