Fuel Gauge a little lazy?

I fill up with about 10 gallons of fuel which gets it to the half way mark. But I drive like 10-15 miles and the gauge drops a quarter very very quickly.

Mine is the same. I go through the first quarter tank (according to the gas gauge) within 10 miles.

When I first got the truck I was freaked out until I got a scangauge.

I might get that. Because I have to take a 1200 mile trip next weekend and I need to know how much gas I really have in backwater Ohio and PA. Is your oil pressure gauge a little lazy too?

No that works as toyota intended. It sucks in general though.

We are talking about the one in the dash cluster correct?

I actually get a pretty equal 80 miles out of each 1/4 on the gas gauge.

Same. I get maybe 20 miles from the quarter.

That's funny. I freaked out a bit too when I first bought her.

For what it's worth: My first 1/4 tank drops very quickly, from 3/4 full to 1/4 full takes a while (relatively speaking) and the last 1/4 disappears in no time. A bit quirky, just like every Toyota I've owned.

Same here, always drops significantly after the first 15-20 miles after fill up then slows down.

Maybe this is an '98 - '02 phenom?

What year is yours? I have a 99 and dash command does not report fuel level.

Also, my gauge do the same thing. And once I was sitting in traffic on Mopac in Austin Texas (for those who know... Brutal) and saw the fuel light come on. Then 60 seconds later she sputtered and died. Out of gas. I now use trip a as a fuel gauge.

Mine is not linear. I'll routinely get 2/3rds of a tank or more out of the first half of the gauge. The last 1/4 goes quick.

This is very typical Toyota, you have to be careful when it gets low.

Mine just started but differs. I add gas but the gauge doesn't reflect it for a little while. It just started this winter and I think it happened when it was fairly cold (10 degrees or less).
