this sucks i really have had it with this truck this is one of the reasons i gave up on jeeps yes they are great off road but reliability has to be a part. just before leaving on friday with a laoner the head service guy (good guy exchange various beach spots to go off roading) says this is a problem that has creaped in with the new models and they are having lots of trouble with. does anyone have any ideas to pass along that they have experienced which fix the problm

if you get too fed up with it, keep bringing it back to the dealer. In some states as little as 6 or 8 (IIRC) repairs in one year qualifies it as a lemon and you get to sell it back to the manufacturer....

Welcome to the club... my 2005 LC has a ongoing problem with the frame rail. Damn thing knocks all the time under normal driving conditions when the frame flexes.. sounds like a loose shock or strut. There's no way I could sell this vehicle like this.

I spent all day getting my documentation in order... sending a letter to Toyota on Monday requesting a buy back---I sure never expected this from a Land Cruiser.

Good luck with yours.

The multiple trouble lights sound like a bad ground or failing alternator.

Ditto. Keep bringing it back.

good luck i went thru a lemon law thing with chrysler for my grd cher took close to 4 months i am not willing to wait that long as soon as this is fixed trading her in on something else. not sure what to get. i still love the 100 series my 99 was thru some great trips i just made a big mistake gettin this new one

I wonder if problems w/ more recent LC's ('05-06) goes back to the Araco no longer building LC's thing, or the 30+ yr-experience LC assembly vets have retired?

At this point I don't care who built the damn thing... I just want my $60K back.

Force the buyback if you can. The lemon laws were made for these cases.

Jim- where did you get this info. about the recent retirement of a significant # of LC assembly vets?

It wasn't specifically LC vets, just experienced Japanese autoworkers. There was an article on it maybe a couple of months ago in the Japan Times, IIRC. They are facing the same problems the US aerospace industry is...experienced guys are starting to/will be retiring in droves, and the positions they are leaving take years to build up the proper experience. This can only affect QC now and/or in the future. In a recent issue of LC mag, it showed pics of a couple of the managers in the LC100/LC79/LX470 plant..they've been working w/ the LC program since the FJ-55 days to give you an idea of their experience.

the lemon law thing takes time and effort which i dont want to do anyway went and test drove thegl450 i didnt like it (i am not a mb type anyway) mr toyota has me the 100 series is still the best large suv out there i took my daughter and 3 of her friends to bq on the beach last week they all sat in the back watching a movie while i drove. had no trouble on the sand (1 of her school mates has a house right on the beach 4x drove across and parked near a tent set up right on the beach anyway the only thing which i would consider is a h2 but that does not have the passenger config. i might just sell this one off and get an 02 or 03

I don't think rear entertainment is available on the '02. It was an option on the '03, but I've yet to see one that has it. Keep in mind the '02 is a 4spd auto, '03 is 5spd w/ redesigned interior (will look just like the '06 interior, '02 interior looks much older). You'll see when you look.

Have the dealer check and/or replace the little cheap switch in the CDL actuator. This was my VSC OFF/TRAC warning light problem all along. They discovered it to be the switch AFTER they replaced the whole TRAC/VSC CPU.

This switch sends the signal to the CPU to tell the CPU if the CDL is locked or not. When the switch is bad the warning light lights, UNTIL the next engine start. Does your's do that?

thanks i will pass that along to them in the am here by the way i dont have a rear dvd just a portable one i set up on the center arm rest i felt like a chaufer for them it was kinda funny actually having a little bulb thing is probably the problem the truck is fine (the basic stuff drive trn 4wd etc) its the little stupid thing that cause all the trouble; like i said before mr toyota has me because this is the best large size suv on the market for all around utility and passenger comfort

Didn't Araco just change its name or merge with another subsidiary of Toyota. I didn't think it had anything to do with changing plants, processes, etc. - just a legal entity name change?

I would think it was most likely a name change, but in this country, whenever there's a buyout, a bunch of vets retire due to pension issues. My father bought a new, rare made-in-Japan camry back ~ '04. One of the power mirrors didn't work, which is exactly one of the problems someone here had w/ a new LX, IIRC (harness wasn't connected; they forgot to connect it, and QC didn't detect it). Totally different factory, but judging from the number of complaints about the new 4runner and Toyota failure to fix them (rattles in the moonroof, vibration in V8 steering at certain engine rpm's, drivers seats with play, etc.), QC seems to have slipped across the board (but still superior to competitors). With the FJC, it seems the rear diffs are blowing apart when locked..more of an engineering issue than QC.
