This is my first thread and I will attempt to not make a newbie mistake. I have a '96 LC with 142K and it is not locked. This is a second-owner vehicle and the PO put 140K of the miles on it. I am no mechanic, but after reading a lot of the threads on this forum (Thanks very much!) I decided to purchase a FSM and hope to attempt most of the maintenance and repairs myself.

One problem my LC has is that the washer fluid dispenses to the rear but not the front of the vehicle. Could someone point me to the source of the problem or how I can diagnose the problem? I have a couple items I need to order from CDan and I would like to include the parts to fix this problem as well. Thanks!

You need to order a new washer fluid diverter pump gizmo (yeah, that's what it's really called -- ask C-Dan, he'll confirm :D). To locate the part, follow the washer fluid hose attached to the hood and follow it back to the diverter.

Replacement is 1  -- remove old, install new...nothing difficult.

As a temporary fix, you could switch the hose connections on the part. You'll have less flow, but some fluid is better than none :)

I had this problem but mine wouldn't dspense to the rear, mine was the diverter, it is under the hood close to the firewall on the drivers side, just follow the washer fluid line to the top of the wheel well where three lines come into a small can/cylinder what have you, also there is an electrical connection here, you could try switching the front line and the rear to see if this solves anything, if this is the problem its a quick fix, about 15 mintues..............

I looked for a part number, but couldn't find one in the quick search I ran. CDan will set you up with the part though.

Drivers side rear corner of the engine compartment, mounted to the DS fender.

Go Vols! :D

Seems odd to me, but I switched the hoses between the top and bottom at the diverter. When I push the front washer button, the front wipers move and water is dispensed to the rear. When I turn the dial to wash the rear windows, the rear wiper runs and the fluid dispenses to the rear as well? Is this the result I should get?

...and thanks for the quick replies and advice!

There is only one pressure pump for both front and rear washers. The part (diverter) simply redirects the flow to the appropriate window.

When your diverter fails, washer fluid will usually spray on the front window regardless of which wiper is activated.

The repair is remove/replace diverter. If it takes you more than 10 minutes, you've stopped for too many #6s!

Looks like I'll be placing my order with CDan for a diverter. Thanks for the help from everyone, and I'm with ya' Rookie2 - Go Vols!

I had part# 85321-60050 in my "common parts" spreadsheet as a Windshield Washer Diverter Valve. CDan can confirm it for you.

Excellent thread JDVols!

This is one of those problems I have on my 80 that I curse every time I drive the car, but never remember to try to fix. Now I know how to fix it and will do so!

Dan I'd imagine this part is the same on my Oz 80. I'll PM you to order one.

It likely is. I can grab a new one and photograph it.

Thanks for all of the help! CDan shipped the part, and I now have fluid to the front and rear windows.
