Toyota already makes a quick disconnect system. Why reinvent the wheel. Let's spend our time learning of ways to apply the KDSS system Toy makes and making the connections we need to source the parts. Beno and Co. are great but I'm thinking we might want access to a used parts guy.

What part number is the quick disconnect?

He's referring to the kdss system on the 200 series. It is a very high tech quick disc system

Is that for the front or back? Does it work on the 100's?

I think the body mount bushings keep it from being floppy-joe-loppy and there's nothing pushing down on the bar since it's disco'd.

I've got the front end of my 100 gutted. The sway bar stays put, but on a bouncy, bumpy trail ride it seems it would definitely move around. Very easy to move by hand.

I'd like to see photos of the 200 series factory disconnect system, but I'm too lazy to go search the 200 forum...

The active system on the 200 is not the way to go in my opinion, too complex, too expensive, too little benefit. I have not seen it but I believe it is hydraulic and likely an integrated part of the AHC suspension.

A disconnect for the front of the 100 that used most of the existing system would be great though. The easy way is to just disconnect one side and let the sway bar follow the connected side so it does not swing down into the action. The bushing drag and unsprung mass biased to one side doesn't matter for low speed off road travel where the disconnected bar would be used.

The KDSS is independent of the AHC, the LC version of the 200's don't have AHC anyway. From my understanding the system is 100% mechanical.

However price/benefit I'm sure you're right. A QD system would do the same thing for a couple hundred bucks. KDSS is cool but the 200's overall just seem too much like a hedonist's off road vehicle with too much do get wrong. Electronic control for your TC? KISS, not KDSS.

It has been discussed on here for years. I spent some time on it myself. Building the disconnect isnt the hard part. Figuring out what to do with the bar after disconnecting it seems to be the issue. This concept should get you guys started for way less:

Also the extremely limited space in the front end is an obstacle as well. But, hopefully you will come up with something. For me.... I decided I just didnt really need it that bad.

Also, somehting like these could be made easily to work in the rear if you want an off-the-shelf solution....

KDSS seem to mean different things, the 200 forums always refer to KDSS valves and KDSS fluid, etc. But it seems the sway portion may in fact be mechanical. The wikipedia description starts off with hydraulics and then states it's a purley mechanical system.

At the end of the day I say KISS not KDSS. For me I think the long term is stiffer t-bars and no sway bar. Have been running stock T-bars without a sway bar and it's fine (not much load carried) plus it keeps me from hanging it out in the corners and shreading tires...

A better higher end shock (king/Radflo/etc) in addition to the stiffer Tbar may help. Something you can adjust the pressure on. I have heard of FJ's doing this. But, I cant remeber where (Metatech I think??).
