Front Seal Part #

Can someone please let me know if they have a part # for the front seal where the driveshaft meets the diff housing? I have a new leak coming out of the collar where these meet... truck is a 1987 BJ73... Thanks!!!
 
Seal, oil (for front differentiel carrier) - 90311-38134

.... for BJ70. Should be the same for you.
 
Thanks David... hey, no disrespect ( I may be wrong here ), but I had always thought the BJ70 had "light duty" axles while the 73 had "heavy duty" axles... therefore I thought they would be a different part #. Once again, I'm not saying you're wrong, I just thought I'd double check. Either way, thanks alot for the info... :)
 
Should be the same as an FJ60
 
Natty, No, the BJ70 is a heavy duty vehicule.

X2 for the FJ60 (HJ60 and BJ60)
 
Changing the seal, is it as straight forward as unbolting the drive shaft, undoing the nut, prying out the seal and reassembling everything as it was taken apart. Did a quick search and people talked about staking the nut when reassembling. Dumb question but what exactly does that mean?
 
just for further reference the LD and HD use the same pinion seal.

staking a nut is dimpling the side of it into the grove of the pinion shaft to prevent loosening of the nut...

Staking, in the context of machined parts, normally means going at the part with a centre punch and a hammer and trying to approximate a light press fit. To lightly retain a bearing in a bored hub, the face of the hub can be staked so that the edge of the bore is deformed, retaining the bearing.. In most applications, it's a bush league maneuver, used to salvage a part that was mis-machined.

In the context of a pinion nut, it would be done to increase the holding power of the deformed style lock nut (normally used to retain the the yoke to the pinion) that was being re-used, to restore the holding torque of the locking feature.

Edit: And as Wayne pointed out (and beat me to the reply while I was typing) if there is a keyway in the threads, it locks the nut at that position.
