I need some spring advice. I don't want to overspring this and give it a crappy ride, but I don't want have to preload the spring too much to get 2.5" of lift.

Front: I am ordering 0-3" Fox 2.5 coilovers with adjusters for my '08 GX470. I will be adding approx 250 lbs in front of the wheels (100 lb bumper, 60lb winch, 65 lb 2nd battery 20lb skid plate). I believe they come with 600lb springs, but 700lb springs are available for a charge.

Recommendations?

Back: I'm ordering Fox 2.5s with adjusters. I will be adding about 300 pounds behind the rear wheels (180 lb bumper, 60 lbs fuel and water, 20lbs larger spare, 35lbs jack. As far as other weight, 220lbs on roof between rack and tent, typical 200 lbs of gear and supplies but only two passengers. Overland 3.0 springs have been recommended but I've read a few reports that they are harsh, unless you're really loaded down and wheeling hard, and harsh is the last thing I want.

I'm tempted to use standard +2 Icon springs combined with airbags in the coils to adjust for heavy loads, but I'm open to spring recommendations.

Thanks for your help!!

I will try and read the numbers on my Fox springs, I would say the spring rate is light. If you want a true 2.5 and will be loading it down with armor, junk, etc I would go heavier on the spring rate for sure. I have 2.5's with remote reservoirs and no adjusters for reference. I also run OME 895E springs in the back and they handle all of the weight I put in the truck and ride well unloaded.

Here is a pic of my setup fully loaded with a weeks worth of camping gear including a fridge and AGM battery in the back.

I agree with you in the fronts being a little light. I would want the 700# springs if I was adding any weight. I have Ironman springs in back but I’m not sure which ones. I have Fox 2.0s back there and it rides nice.

Thank you both for the replies! Good feedback.

If anyone is running Icon Overland 3.0s in the back, let me know what you think of them.
