Works for me!

Sounds good....Thanks. Next time I need to order OEM parts I will definitely check with you first.

Fwiw I only chose the parts available from UAE as that is where you stated you sourced them.

No, I said UAE and Japan....depending on prices and availability....(but I wouldn't order a single part from one place and all the others from the other place.... it wouldn't make sense....).

With my DD being the 1988 Celica GT4 Turbo (with 1996 ST205 engine and drive-train swap...) the warehouse most likely to carry parts for it seems to be the Japan one (more and more...)

Because the felt keeps the knuckle ball slightly greasy
You don't want your balls to be completely dry......just saying.

Welp, I finished up my rebuild today with the uhmw wipers. I will report back with my results.

As far as lubricating the balls, the wipers do not wipe 100% of the grease off. The surface isn't completely polished, therefore the imperfections leave some grease behind and not all of the gunk like the felt did.

The only bad thing is that I don't think you will be able to tell when your axle seal is leaking. But I guess only time will tell.

If this is your first time rebuilding the front axle budget a lot more time than expected. It is not a tough job, just messy and time consuming. Make sure you have a good supply of nitrile gloves, paper towels and brake cleaner on hand.

I know. i had them and was disappointed.

Does anyone know what type the Terrain Tamer kit includes? Felt or rubber?

Thanks for the confirmation, Joey :)

Also, thanks for helping us bring our 80 Series axle poster to the community.

Joey designed a version of his axle poster for us - a great resource when doing a knuckle rebuild, CV replacement or other service procedure or repair. The poster is a blow-up of the knuckle with all parts, torque specs and locations. 18" x 27" the poster is attractive, laminated and ready for years of service in your shop. Also suitable for framing as a loverly Land Cruiser home decor addition. Available through Terrain Tamer shops and resellers and online at the Cruiser Brothers web store for $25 plus shipping at www.CruiserBrothers.com and here.

Cruiser Outfitters is a great shop, Kurt is a great guy to do business with, and I highly recommend supporting great vendors like them. I am a notorious penny pincher, and the Interwebs allow weasels like me to squeak every penny of value out of our purchases. Having said that, I bought my front axle rebuild kit from Kurt and Cruiser Outfitters because they enjoy an Excellent Reputation for customer service, and they provide excellent, well-vetted products at very competitive prices. While their prices may not be the absolute cheapest solution (and in fact, they might be, if we're comparing apples to apples), their quick shipping, expertise and responsiveness are good as gold.
When I got my front axle kit one of the paper seals was folded in half. It might have worked, but I shot them an email and I got an immediate reply with an apology and a replacement seal within a couple days, free of charge. (Try that with Amayama and LMK how it goes.) That is how one builds and maintains a business for years. They have earned my support and respect, along with that of many others in the Toyota off roading community.
It's just my two cents, but I want to live in a world where I can do business with places like Cruiser Outfitters, rather than be stuck with Napa, Partsouq/Amayama, or Mr. T himself as my only options.
We wield a lot of power with our wallets. My choice is to support Cruiser Outfitters and similar businesses whenever I can.

I spent like three half-days doing one side. I was ridiculously careful and it was the craziest mechanical job I've ever done. I'm sickishly looking forward to the other side now. Planning on two days, but also planning on surprises because s*** happens.

It surely does. Here is our parts manager Clint Ferguson (aka Fergy) showing his mini truck some love late on a weeknight at the shop.

You are not alone :)
