I have a front facing camera that I am wiring into my Grom Vline2 for when off road or just tight spots. Where is everyone mounting them? I can only see two places...
1. right on the leading edge of the front bumper (mine is stock)
2. in the grill above or below the emblem

Would love to see what you guys do?

I think either one is fine.

I have always wanted to put a forwarding facing camera in the undercarriage to help with spotting. I'd put the camera as far back as possible so it can see all four wheels. I'd use a cheap camera in case they get knocked off.

depends on what you want to use it for. I personally like to have something for frame of reference. for example, my brother has a dodge ram with a front cam (aftermarket) it's center up on the grill, but you can't see the bumper and so it's hard to tell just how close you are when parking.

for trails, I think down on the bumper would be better as it's un obstructed... and you can see over the crest of drop offs easier...

SO this is the dilemma... one place is better for off road the other is better for life. I am thinking that the grill with the front bumper edge in view would be the best compromise.
I saw one guy actually drilled his front skid plate to get it down low so he could see...

That's what I'm going to do when I eventually do a front camera. My GX will never be a rock crawler, and I've never needed a camera before for spotting, I think the added ability to see over the top of a steep incline and parking in tight quarters would be much more valuable than the once or twice a year that I hit an obstacle that I could have used the camera (and hope it's cleaned off lol)

I added one to the middle tube on my aftermarket bumper. It angles down maybe 50degs to see my bumper. It’s great for parking and I’ve learned where my front wheels are for trails. For you I guess I’d say in the grill pointing down.

what camera did you go with?

I used a $20 amazon camera below the stock bumper and it helped in tight parking but didn’t help off road much. It was hard to judge wheel placement. For off road, I think further back, underneath on the skid so you can see the tires would be ideal. Above the bumper would be better for parking. Either way, the camera has died after six months, likely from water/salt.

I don't know how expensive these things are, but you COULD buy two, wire in both places, and swap the input side when on the trail or the street.

I have a VLine2, and removed the OEM CD changer and doublesided taped the unit in that location. I can access the ports but it's tight. How dose a front camera work? Do you need to download an app to integrate the camera? I exclusively use it for carplay, and haven't tried the google apps.

The GROM actually has 2 video inputs. One for front and one for rear but since we use the factory rear camera there is an open input. You could have two front cameras.
from the main GROM screen press an open + icon and add the “AVIN” app/plugin. Super easy.

That’s the ticket. When I installed mine I already wired in a camera input line. I just need to figure out where I want that front camera...

I guess I don’t think I’ll ever use it for parking. Never had one, never needed one to park. So lean towards putting it way down low for better views Offroad.

I live in Seattle and consider myself and excellent parallel parker but with a front and rear camera I can wedge my steel bumpered GX anywhere. I make people on the sidewalk watching me nervous.

In the spirit of Halloween, I'm bringing this thread back from the dead...

Where did you end up mounting the camera?
