I had a clunk/rattle going over washboard roads, rough pavement and uneven snow. Seemed to get worse in the cold last few days.
I got under there with a hammer and started tapping things. Wanted to see if there was movement with the swaybar brackets, happens a lot in the 80 series and I found threads here with similar issues. None of that budged.
So I lifted up and down on the front bumper to check the shock.
Passenger side was in good shape. Drivers side made a noise and felt like an air gap in the shock. I looked at the shock, but couldn't see anything obvious.
I had to drop something off at Slee's today and Ben came out and looked while I lifted the front bumper. Turns out the bottom shock bolt was loose and the shock bolt was moving up and down in the bracket. He did the bumper trick while I looked.
Tightened up the bolt and the clunk is gone.
Glad it was something simple. I should have had someone come over and lift on the bumper while I looked. Can't do both at the same time.
Just thought I would post up in case someone else has a similar issue in the future
