Front Diff Mount

Has anybody replaced the bushing on the front diff mount? I'm considering just replacing the entire front cover since I don't have a press and am assuming I'll have to pull the cover anyway. Other option would be to get it over to Slee and see what they would charge to replace. Thanks for any help.

I ordered a new bushing, have yet to install it. It was not am oe part. Febest is the brand. It looks to be good quality, but really it's all about rubber density.

But from what I have gathered, it's better to pull the cover off and do the job in a press. So you may end up having to order a new cover since you don't have a press. If you bring it to slee, let us know what they say. I'm sure oem will last longer

Thanks for the info, can you tell me if there's a large washer over the bushing on yours? Mine just had the bolt going straight through the bushing, which I think is the cause of the failure. I've seen photos That look like there's a washer, but I'm not seeing a washer on any of the parts diagrams.

There is a large washer. 2001lc's bushing looks tight...like a tiger.

Mine is about half as bad as yours.

I can post a few pics of the parts I ordered if you want.

You could almost buy a cheap HF press and these bushings and do it yourself for the cost of a new cover.

Yep, definitely missing that washer. I made one out of flat steel so I could move it and get to a shop if need be. Interesting thing is what I thought was the driveline thunk that's well documented here is now completely gone since I put it on and got it fairly tight. Part numbers would be greatly appreciated if you have them. Especially that washer. Do you guys know if the cover can be taken off without having to remove the entire front diff? The cheap press does make sense, front diff cover is around $200.

I have the exact "Thunk" when putting into gear or at other times but mostly putting into gear. LX470 2000.

I replaced the front diff cover, which included bushing. Probably could have just replaced the bushing and saved some money, but since reading about others that had replaced the bushing and realizing that most ended up having to drop the diff anyway, I thought just replacing the cover would be easier and honestly didn't want to mess with it. I also replaced the upper Stopper (part number 41453-60010) and the lower stopper (part number 41654-60010). My bushing was so bad due to the lower stopper not being there that there was a 1/2" gap between the mount and frame, which allowed it to rotate and hit the frame when I put it in gear making the thunk noise. I haven't had an issue since replacing it. If yours is bad enough that it allows a fair amount of movement this may be the issue, but if not it's probably one of the other issues that has been discussed here causing the driveline thunk.

2 days ago, I added an extra rubber washer about 3-4 mm thick in the space shown in the picture (2001LC: thank you for the picture). The rubber washer came from the top of an old front shock absorber from the cruiser. Had to cut with a blade to get the desired thickness and widen the opening in the middle.
