3.11 gears with an automatic would probably be as low as you would want to go. Lower than that and you would be redlining on the flat parts of the trail. Or constantly shifting between high and low range.

The automatic pretty much counts as an additional 2:1 reduction on the rocks. Doing the math 2x3.11 ~ 6.

6:1 gears are plenty low for all but the worst obstacles, stuff you are not likely to be doing in a 100.
 
^ and to add: The HF2A case won't accept a larger gear...its physically at its maximum with the 3.12:1 gear set.

How is the auto a 2:1 reduction?
 
It would be more accurate to say the torque converter provides the equivalent of a 2:1 reduction.

A dual t-case set up would be nice. I like the 2.5:1, 4:1 or combined 10:1 options I have in my FJ40.
