Hi everyone,
Anyone have any ideas/experience on retrofitting/integrating a front facing camera into a 2011 LC200 so that it comes up on the display as well? I'm relatively new to the forum, so my apologies if this topic's been covered before.

Best,

Rich

I don't know if any way to add an aux video input to the oem display. Audio yes..video...never seen it.

I don't know if it possibly, maybe you could tap into the wires for the rear view camera and add a switch to select either rear view camera or an added camera in the front? Of course, you would only be able to use one or the other and not both at the same time if you can do that. I can't think of any other way.

Yes possibility but seems like alot of work for little reward. Guess the driver could always just look in front of them to see whats going on. ;p

Many of the aftermarket head units have both the front and rear options now. When you put the car in reverse it auto shows that camera and then when you move it out of reverse it shows the front camera (wide angle) for 20-30 seconds.

My android head unit came with DVR application where I can have it record to a USB stick while I'm driving.

Overseas LC's usually allow for aftermarket head units...the US models only come one way, so the ability to change the headunit and not have to replace, amps, speakers, and rewire the car make it a hard move.

I don't even know if out head unit is double din or what. Never measured it.

I think the rear camera plugs into the head via a RCA jack, so you shold be able to just swap cameras out for front and rear. The hard part is figuring out how to select the camera. 2 ways I can see is using a DPDT switch and just manually selecting which camera you want displayed. That would probably get annoying very fast.

If you could find how it's done via the shirter for the Euro version, you could copy that. Has to be some sort of switch inside the shifter that probably isn't on the US version, so you'd have to add it yourself. That would be the hard part to figure out I'd think.

Not to complicate matters, but ...

I find the side cameras on my 2013 to be much more useful than the front camera. Especially useful for seeing exactly what is lurking close to the running board area on the passenger side.

maybe it's possible to retrofit the side mirrors with cameras?

I actually got an email this morning - the supplier I have for radios now has a 4 camera system they are going to send me this month for a demo. (front/rear/side mirror) to give the TLC a camera system like the lexus. But to be honest the best camera system I have seen so far is on the Nissan Y62 LE (I swear it looks like you have a birds i view of your SUV)

Very cool, look forward to a full report!

that's brilliant; presume one can swap out a current system for this upgraded model. current side-view on TLC is "ok" and gets the job done. how do the LX570 cameras differ?

Yes but this entails having to replace the whole audio system and nav, etc. Meaning I don't believe the stock amps and speakers will work with a new aftermarket head unit.

Please correctly if I am wrong as I would love to do that.

Thanks

I will see if I have a us spec TLC tomorrow and double check the harness if its a plug n play option. I know it works on the LHD G9/GX/VXR and RHD AX/AXG and even steering wheel buttons are working.

If it is plug and play and also will fit in the original location it would be a nice option for people.

Hi xKennx - just wondering if you ever found out if the system is plug n play? Also who's the vendor you found if you don't mind?

I'm trying to figure this out myself. It would be super handy to have front cameras allowing me to see where my tires are on some of the trails I run. I may just end up mounting a second screen on a ram mount if I can't figure out a clean way to use the integrated display. It would be a shame though if I can't leverage it since it's already there.

Ok, so I have a 2010 LX, which has the front and right hand side cameras. Isn't the LC have the same head unit or is it different?

Here is my thought... if it is the same head unit why could you not order the OEM Lexus camera for the front and the side mirror that includes the camera and just plug them in? I am assuming that the wire harness is there too... could be very wrong on this, but it is a thought.
