What’s the deal with these? Are they bigger? Bolt up the same?

I just installed both front calipers and the pads.
Direct fit. These are used on the HZJ79 which we drive in our mines.

Aren't the 80 calipers still available? It's probably been a year or 2 but they were last time I ordered?

Yeah I have no issues getting late model 80 series and Lexus lx450 calipers.

Not really a upgrade unless your 1990-1992ish hdj81.

More of a global ability to get parts by not being limited to one set of OEM numbers.
In my case the damn 79 series parts are there on the shelf, walk in walk out, and slap those parts on my 81.
Saves having to order in parts from the dealer and prices are decent.
