OK, don't kill me yet... for the stupid Belgium road worthiness inspection, I'll need to ditch the massive ARB front bumper and go for a standard single piece Toyota bumper. As 70 series bumpers are like rocking horse s*** over here and they are a little too heavy to ship over from Auz... A LR series bumper can be brought in the UK for peanuts maybe even free... anyone know / admit to trying to fit one on a Toyota, are they similar length and width ? if not I'll have to get the welder out, but as my welding looks like a monkey did it... you get the picture ...

Cheers

I assume you are talking about mating the Land Rover Series 2, 2A or 3 bumper to a 40 Series Cruiser. Having had several older Series Rovers I would say adapting the bumper to your Cruiser would be fairly straight forward. You might have to be a little creative to actually attach the bumper however the dimensions should be fairly close. I know longer have any Rovers to go look at but as I recall there was a pair of bolts that went through the bumper and attached to the forward portion of the frame. Hope that helps...........1978HJ45

That's the general idea... however its a Series or defender bumper to a 70 series...

Crapy idea I know but there really isn't anything second hand around...

I went out and looked at my 70 Series to see how the current bumper mates up and I am still under the impression that a Series or Defender bumper would fit. It may not be the most attractive Cruiser in the neighborhood but it should hopefully get you through an inspection. There are numerous people on this forum who are more mechanically talented than me and hopefully some will lend their advice but I think what you have in mind should work. ..........................1978HJ45

In some countries like Aust ,the toyota factory bullbar is part of the vehicle when sold new.
Tell them the ARB bullbar its part of the original equipment as supplied by Toyota.
If they have accepted the vehicle into the country ,they should accept it with its accessories and standard features.:D
Might be a loop hole there somewhere;)

Thanks for the replies, I'm on the look out for either bumper.... as for red tape, the customs guy can't understand what an Englishman is doing living in Belgium - importing a LC RHD from Australia which didn't come though the port of Antwerp but driven from Cape Town...

I guess he doesn't have any imagination...

i think i still have a series bumper kicking around out in the back 40, if you want/need I can take some measurements and a pic for you, tho I think you'd be better off getting the customs knob to accept the arb as factory,

maybe someone has a brochure or something they can scan where it's listed as optional equipment from the dealer?

cheers

weirdo,
whereabouts are you in Belgium ?
I might have an LJ70 bumper or two somewhere you could borrow for inspection ?
I'm not sure they'd fit your cruiser, what model is it ?
I'm in the north of France

Have you considered using your large ARB bumper to just run down the inspector? ......................1978HJ45

Listed under accessories but its a 78/79 series

Toyota LandCruiser 78 Series Press Kit

I would try,but realistically they are going to say the vehicle is not a euro spec vehicle

I have a factory front bumper from an '85 Canadian BJ70, with two factory brackets I'm not using, a little rusty but acceptable, if this will work for you they're yours for the price of shipping

Found a Series LR bumper for £1 yep must be worth the petrol to get it... and a MK3 Hilux front bumper, but I recon it wont fit and will take a lot more modifiing to make it all work....

cheers

I live in begium aswel, and I never had any problems with the inspection aboud my winchbumper. If your car is older than year 2000 they cant say anything.

thanks for the replies, I've found a bumper for European roads... the ARB will be in the garage awaiting African adventures.

Another couple of months worth of work then I'm ready for the inspection.

Cheers
Matt
