For those who have spent (too much) time underneath an FJ62, what can you tell me about this one I'm considering? It's a '88 with 190,000 miles, garage kept. All diagnosis welcome.

Three more ... appreciate any feedback what looks broken, what looks good...what looks shot. Thanks in advance.

Oil pan gasket looks recently replaced. Rear differential inspection cover has a whole tube of orange RTV on it. Speedo cable is nice and shiny looking. Power steering system could be leaking somewhere, the driver side front corner of the frame (same side as the steering gearbox) is wet looking compared to the other side.

Dirt, and grime looks like the underside of my 1984 FJ60. And with that it looks pretty clean. Hows the body?

Looks like there is quite an exhaust leak judging from all the black areas on the muffler and tailpipe. Also, looks like there is a leak from the power steering pump considering the black all over the driver side of the frame. And finally, the red or orange RTV Silicone on the rear axles' diff cover seems excessive to me, maybe the cover is bent/ warped/ mangled? Hell, it's squished out of the bolt holes. Oh, And lastly, maybe a concern and maybe not, the oil pan has a fresh (what looks to be) cork gasket on it. I don't know if this is the proper gasket, but maybe a temporary fix for a warped one?

Thanks! Body is very, very nice, no rust that i can see. Interior a 7/10.

All hell Alex beat me to it. Refresh, dammit! Refresh!!

Looks pretty clean overall. May have been pressure washed recently. Exhaust is easy to fix. Cork oil pan gasket could be a stock unit. I have a new toyota gasket for mine and it is rubberised cork. If the price is right go for it.

Thanks gents, appreciate the quick replies.

The steering knuckles (at least the one thats visible) are in better than average shape. most of them, (mine for example) look like this:

If this truck is near you (Ottawa) and have been in Canada for several years, than it's in pretty good shape!! Rust is the major issue, everything else can be fixed!

The OEM Toyotaoil pan gasket is cork.

Agree with what the others have said, it has had some decent work done to it lately and has been cleaned up. Depending on the price it may be worth it as that is semi-low mileage and if the body is in good shape (i.e. little to no rust for your region) then i would jump on it. You will need a new exhaust soon if not immediately and you will definitely want to figure out what is leaking and making the drivers side wet (I am with TCD and Kline on the ps pump). Looks like you have it at a mechanics shop, so I would have them inspect the rear diff cover. With the amount of RTV coming out I would be worried about why they used that much.
