Good looking rig! I'm pretty sure I've seen that rig before. Only a few of us "goldies" in BHM. You're going to love it.

Nice! I actually picked this one up in Birmingham. It was faithfully serviced at Franklin Automotive but I only have a brief description of all that was done. It would be great to see actual invoices. Any chance you know anyone there?

How funny! I daily a 94 miata na and rock the the hundy on the weekends

Lowered the miata about 1inch and she is so fun to take around the corners especially when the limited slip diff kicks in

All the stock miata guys give me funny looks when I crush them off the line (0 to 40 mph). DT Headers, 3 inch exhaust, and gears make for some fun stop light launches. :<)

Welcome. I like sports cars as well, just no discipline when it comes to speed so I drive this slow 100.

I prefer to drive at VIR.

I've had my LX serviced at Franklin's before, but I don't know the guys there that well. Solid group though.....everyone swears by them in BHM.

Another BHM area “goldy” chiming in. We might need to start a club: Steel City Cashmere Club? Haha. This is actually my wife’s DD. I daily a lowered, turbocharged, manual wagon....and love every minute of it. Buuuuut, I love having the hundy in the family and having the best of both worlds.

Nice! Unfortunately, I'm in LA (Lower Alabama :)) and the corners are few and far between down here. My most fun on the way to/from work was the new exit ramp/overpass.

I'm tempted to take it back to them when I'm back up that way again and see what I can find out.

That's like 5 out of 15 commenters that own Miatas. It's amazing how similar we are. We're on a board talking about our 10 mile per gallon trucks, yet we all share this dirty little Miata secret...

I f****** love this site.

Right?

It’s always a tough decision do I buy something for LC or the miata? LC is getting all the love of course but I really need to get a hard dog roll bar for that just incase moment. Other than that I’m fine with her being somewhat stock. Love that 30 mpg but still having fun with the top down.

Haha. Eventually, I would love to do DT Headers and either DT or Borla exhaust. And I agree with driving it slow. I have much less of a chance with tickets with this vs the MSM.

That's awesome! Must have been something about gold LX470's in Birmingham in the early 2000's.

Definitely need a pick of your lowered, turbo, manual wagon.

Update on the last couple of weekends work:

One issue that the LX had when bought, was a rattling ML subwoofer. So these past few weekends have been trying to remedy the issue. So, while I was doing that, i decided to lay down some additional sound deadener in the cargo area.

I did a good bit of research and finally decided on the Noico 80 mil Sound Deadening Mat (from Amazon). I ordered the 36 sq ft size and was able to lay down across the cargo area, fender wells, and partial of the rear quarter panel. Prep work was just general cleaning and then wiping down with isopropyl alcohol. Overall, it was a fairly easy install, with the most time taken when cutting around everything in the floor.

Im anxious to hear your impressions of the Noico mat. I had to pull most of the trim out of my Volvo for something else, and I told myself I wasn’t going to put it back until I laid some soundproofing down. (Let’s not ask how king ago that was ). Have you buttoned it back up yet? Was it worth it? And you gonna do any more further up?

Here’s the aforementioned Volvo. It’s a very rare factory 5-speed (less than 100 from 2003) V70 T5 (high pressure turbo). It had 17 more hp from the factory than the hundy, with 1300 less pounds, but should be a solid 70+hp ahead by this Summer. It lacks a couple of the capabilities of the cruiser tho. Haha. It’s on Koni FSDs and Eibach springs, with a roofline that sits at about the bottom of the LX’s windows. It’s safe, but I wouldn’t wanna year that against a hundy...or any of the other giant trucks in AL. And the blue one was it’s twin that we sold when my wife and I got bit by the LC bug and she decided she was done with three pedals.

So, I've only driven the LX once to/from work and then left for a business trip. But it did actually seem somewhat quieter that day than before. I would think that a larger difference would be noticeable if one was sitting in the back. I would use Noico again, and probably will when a have to refoam the door speakers and have the door panels off anyways. It was very easy to work with. I laid the mats on the driveway in the sun to heat them up slightly (it was a little chilly in AL last weekend) and that worked great. A heat gun would probably do the same thing. Everything went back together fine without really any issues, it doesn't add too much thickness to prevent assembly.

Thanks for sharing! I love the Volvo! I was actually looking at a V70 (or V70R) when I was trying to decide what car to get next. I have always liked the looks and you can't beat Volvo seats. I would still like to have one like that one day (hint hint; let me know when/if you sell ;)).

Another Miata/100 series owner chiming in. My first post, but kinda floored how many Miata guys are on here so had get in on the roll call.

Mine from a few years ago. In mothballs now due to my E30 seeing track days instead of Solo in the miata. Son is finally of driving age so in the spring we'll start doing some solo events together in E Street. LX will tow us there!
