Hi All, had a FJ40 most of my life and had put a fresh 350 in it, unfortunately the fj40 went to the landcruiser gods  but still have the engine, bellhousing adaptor and a gearbox (5 speed from a fj60).

Question is, does anyone know if the sbc will fit in the 1997 Prado?

And/or how do I determine the model of gearbox in my (soon to be owned) Prado and consequently find out about the bolt pattern, to see if I can use the same adaptor? It is a 5 speed manual behind the 2.7lt petrol. Maybe a hilux or 4 runner adapter is needed?

(Yes I have done some searching but info on the 90 series seems slim compared to the 40 series threads)

Thanks

Instead of stuffing a 350 in there I would sell it and find the 5VZ 3.4 V6. The prado youre buying, is it a 3 door or a 5 door? The transmission should be a W56, but I dont know the bolt pattern.

If youre talking about the 3 door prado, I would highly recommend getting the 5VZ engine instead. That engine on a shorty 90 with the 5 speed manual is amazingly powerful, plus it would be an (almost) direct bolt on. If its the 5 door 95 series it can still pack a pretty respectable punch. I used to have a V6 auto 95 and it had more than enough power even though it was pretty fxxxing heavy (bulletproof, literally) and had a 4 speed transmission.

I now have a 2.7 manual 90 and it does defend itself but i miss the v6 grunt.
