I've been doing some research about getting my frame galvanized. here is what I have found...

South Atlantic Galvanizing, Travelers Rest: $0.98 per pound, $250 minimum

But here's the catch, their chemical bath does not strip paint....SO, the frame (in my case) will need to be stripped first and completely free of paint. Apparently, that's the more expensive process...

Carolina Chem-Strip
, Fountain Inn: $450 (quote for the frame)

So there you have it. $700 plus transport to get my frame dipped and galvanized.

i think it might be worth it. "Do it once, do it right" isn't that what they say? :hhmm:

wildman on Mud has a galvanized 40 frame. It turned out well.

McInnis' rock truck has a galvanized frame. Make sure you put bolts in all your bolt holes prior to dipping.

to clarify, South Atlantic Galvanizing said they do put the frame through a caustic dip prior to the zinc bath, but it is not strong enough to remove paint, just cleans up any surface rust and removes oils etc.

I asked in regards to the threaded holes and they said I couldn't galvanize the frame with bolts in the holes to protect the threads, and that I'd just have to re-tap them. Did McInnis leave the bolts in during galvanizing?

I have a bunch of Rover parts that I'll need to have regalvanized. Please post all the contact or website info ;-) Can you ship it to them?

I have a galv frame on my 88" Rover, all the cladding is OEM galv, and I've got a galv roof rack and front bumper - and like Jim says, Mike has one on his 40. Definitely the kats arse.

Thanks! Yet another reason I'd be happy living in NW SC...

I'd say frames and accessories would be fine, a whole tub - too krappy looking. FJ40's should be smooth, shiny and glossy, or rock rashed - but rust, diamond plating or other rough stuff just isn't right - sorry to those who've used body coating on the exterior, but you know me - I'm a purist :D.

I wonder if I just took the tub off the 40 and let them dip the whole thing how it would look.

lol

But what if it had a big gay engine in it?:flamingo:

I see a white 60 on my way into work occassionally and he has his custom bumpers, an ARB roof rack and great big 3-4" tube step/sliders all galvalnized. It actually looks kinda cool, like some kind of urban camouflage. We always see each other going the same direction on my way thru downtown. I need to try and snap a picture of it. I think he works somewhere around Centennial Park.
