Hey guys,

I found a used lift kit (i know they don't come in kits, but I'm going to call it that anways) from a BJ71, and I'd like to put it on my BJ74. The kit was on the 71 for 2 years, then got hit from the side, and he's been parting it out for a while now.

He recommend I replace the Ubolts ($135) and he's selling me all the shackles, bushings, shocks, ans springs for about $1000.

I have attatched some pictures. And here's my situation, I'm a student, and probably won't have any real money until mid summer. Now, do I have to replace the Ubolts? If I don't have to, I don't want to.

Also, check out the pics and let me know your 2 cents worth. The Ubolts look like they have lots of life left in them.

Can anyone tell if the shackles and pins are greasable?

just realized theres no pics of the shackles and pins.

EDIT: with travel and install and swapping parts - he wants my parts so he can at least keep his parts rig moving, would be about $1500 - wihtout new ubolts. Now a new kit I've been quoted around $1700, and I would install it myself. That being said, its now only a $200 difference between used - no warranty, wear and tear etc. - and new. Something doesn't seem right to me.

I just fired an email off requesting hardware, swap, and install for $1000. Sound reasonable? Maybe John from RaddCruisers who has commercial experience can spew his pearls of wisdom in my general direction.

No Compromise for safety, get the bolts!!!!!!

Might want new bushings too depending how worn they are.

I don't have any rust on my shocks or stabilizer and mine have been on for 3 years, where's the truck? Might be winter roads.

Two years is not a lot of wear unless he pounded them but they do take a beating. My first pair lasted 4 years and had the same ride height when I sold the truck. Saw the truck 3 years later and it still looked the same.

Cheers,

John

where is the truck ffrom? Those springs look prettyrusty, must be from snowsalt/ belt.
Bring your old u bolts to your local spring shop and they can make new ones for about $8 each with washer and nut.
l do lots of oldmanemu spring installs, those springs are rusty.

U-bolts should always be changed.

The OME ones are a little more than made up U-bolts but they always fit correctly.

Surface rust on the springs is pretty much irrelevant.

Current Canadian retail pricing is more in the $1930 range plus taxes for a full OME 70 series set up without an SD24 or caster correction.

2x CS006F
2x CS017RB
2x GP1
1x GSP01
4x SB1
4x U51
4x U59B
2x 60009
2x 60062

Typical install is about 6 hours depending on how things go.

rust is rust, if it is surface then no biggie. if it is serious piting then walk away.
for that price i would look at new and pay the extra.

6 hours, if all goes well. i had installs take two days of beating, cursing and sweating on CDM vehicles, i have had the complete job done in 2.5 hours on a fresh JDM using a new kit.

Hi All:

X 2 what Crushers wrote! ;p

Swapping-out original suspension parts from an old rusty rig can be a major PITA!

Flipside, removing/replacing parts on a leaf suspension that has been worked on in recent memory is a lot easier!! :D

Good luck!

Alan

Thanks all for the replies. I decided to go for a new kit. If I decide to tackle it myself, I'll make a build thread as I can't find a picture step by step for an OME install on a 70 series. Its also a work truck = tax write off ;)

Thanks again mates - I'm not even Australian, but after being in this forum for a while it grows on you.
