Just messin' around in the North part of Las Vegas, and found a bunch of dunes. The cool thing is that this is just minutes from the house. LOTS Of bikers and ATVers have been thru here for years, so there are many, many trails. Ran into a ranger, he said "just don't go on the protected area" so it was all good. Cousin of mine just installed a new lift on his *eep, so we went to find something that could test it out.

Learned a helluva lot on what i need for this vehicle. The problems are a) what order to buy; and b) fundage!

Here's my vehicle, a 96 with 33" tires, OME Steering Stabiliser (sic), cup holder. Lift not yet installed, taking space in the garage.

here's a quick lesson on DEPARTURE ANGLES. Stock tow equipment shown. The spare also received some scrapage. You can see the scrapes on the dirt, and the nice collection of dust in the receiver hitch.

While i'd love to be called "hung low," does my spare in that pic seem like its lower than most?

For the "what tire will fit?" thread, here's my 33" Mickey's with stock suspension, on a very mild rise:

and from the "1911" thread, here's my travel companion:

So anyhow, i've created my shopping list, not sure if this is the right order:

1. (BUY) Hanna Sliders. The dirt out here is VERY soft, so i slid over quite a bit. I kept hearing strikes on the rear mudflap.

2. (MOD) raise the rear tire carrier with the NUT Mod.

3. (INSTALL) my damn OME heavy kit. And while i'm at it, the breather extensions.

4. (BUY) rear bumper. I scraped the damn thing at least half a dozen times.

5. (BUY) ARB rear locker. There were 3 hills that my cuz made, that i couldn't. Perhaps if i got a little more speed, but i dug in pretty good. He's got 35s, front/rear ARB'ed.

6. (BUY) front tow points. Although i didn't get stuck, the PO removed them so i have no front points. I brought along a socket set, just in case i had to remove one from the rear.

So anyhow, that was my trip. Just 2.5 hours, but best of all the ride home took 15 minutes ;)

:)

your rear anchor looks stock to me ;)
it's the #1 reason I want a rear bumper sooooo bad. I always have to throw the tire in the back and it's always filthy..... PITA

The tow hitch is the greatest skid plate made though! :D I drag that on everything and it takes all the blows that would probably otherwise be my body/frame

of course, when My bumper goes on Wed I won't need it anymore ;)

I'm out in Vegas once or twice a year for work. CES
We might have to hook up next time I'm out. Usually I'm pretty busy though...
I've often thought about extending my flight back and hitting Hoover dam and maybe the grand canyon.

That hitch has saved me many times when coming down on that instead of the frame or back bumper..man I can't wait till I get a lift.

Klunky-
what kind of rear are you putting on?

ironpigoffroad.com
similar to a Slee bumper

I didn't see any pics of 80 series bumpers on that website. Do you have any pics you could post?

Ditto.

I messaged Kris about it, he's working on getting some pics to put up. I'd like to have a couple different options to choose from when buying a rear bumper/carrier. As competition generally makes products better and cheaper.

OK sorry guys, but my *notifications* haven't worked for a looong time now. (can't fix it either) It makes it real hard to keep track of replies to my posts. Sorry!

Anyway, Lances business and website are brand spanking new so the site isn't totally done yet.

Here are some pics of his PROTOTYPE bumper. The production bumper will be basically the same with small changes to the latch assembly and such. I don't have pricing or true availability yet. (I thought he had a couple done already though) Feel free to call him on the contact # on his site though!
