First I would like to say that we have 3 or more guys that say they are looking for an 80. If we let this one get away without an HDC member buying it then you guys are not trying very hard. This is potentially a smokin' deal guys.
1997 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 with 150k miles (actual ~149,900 as of Sunday)
VIN JT3HJ85J0V0182097
Desert Dune over Moonglow pearl (Same color combo as mine... damn good looking too!)
Tan guts that looks pretty good through the windows. Couldn't get in, it was locked.
4 tires on the ground look in good to excellent condition. Stock size Michelin LTX. (Factory spec tires)
Factory alloys, moonroof, 3rd row, leather, power seats, premium sound, running boards, roof rack, wind deflector, trailer hitch (Class-III), ABS, air bags, OBD-II, and all the other amenities one would expect on the best off-road luxury SUV ever made
Body looks in good condition, front bumper might have taken a slight bump sometime over the years. The bumper wasn't dented or bent but it didn't fit quite right. I couldn't check vin number on the body panels. Paint looks original and in excellent condition. No desert pinstriping. A small spot on a couple of the flares where the clear coat is flaking off (this is quite common and mine is doing the same thing on 1 of the original flares.)
It is at a dealer in Bernalillo and he has a story about it being owned by a friend of the guy that owns the lot and they are trying to help this friend sell it because this friend bought a used Volvo from them.... I call BS but that's just me. Seller told me it is a NM truck and says he has not run a Carfax. If someone can pull a Carfax then we will know for sure.
It appears they tried to run it through Manheim auction last week with a no-sale. That tells me that someone would like to turn this vehicle pretty quickly. He is supposedly checking to see if maintenance records are available and going to call me back. I will post up whatever I find out.
He says they will take $6,500. That is their starting price and $6,500 is a great price for a nice New Mexico 1997 FZJ80 w/150k. I would think a skilled negotiator could drive it away for $5,500 to $6,000. Start out at $5k and see if he will move. Since he says he doesn't own it, it should not hurt his feelings to give the owner a call and make an offer.
Oh.... one more thing.
You thought I forgot didn't you.
Yes, it has the factory diff lock option.
Jon and I didn't test drive the truck and we didn't look underneath to be sure that it still has the electric motors on the diffs, but it has the switch and I'll guarantee you it has the F&R lockers.

Good Luck to those of you that are serious about buying a locked late model 80. Remember, only around 7% of the total produced had the diff lock option. Yes, you can retrofit ARB lockers for about $2,000 but these are "free" so to speak.
