Hello,

I did a little upgrade I would like to share.

When looking for photos on the Internet I found this picture from a catalog.

I liked the look of the small fog lights. A little research showed that they are an option for export Land Cruisers; JDM units use round lights. Installation is simple: two holes are provided in the front bumper, and the dash is wired for a switch. Two wire extensions are also required.

For anyone interested, this is the part number and description:
81210-60080 LAMP ASSY, FOG, FZJ79, HZJ79...GEN; FZJ71, 74, 78, HZJ71, 78..GCC, GEN

The switch and cable part number and description:
84160-90K01 SWITCH, FRONT FOG LAMP
82132-60041 WIRE, COWL, NO.2, FZJ79, HZJ79...GEN; FZJ71, 74, 78, HZJ71, 78..GCC, GEN; NO.1

Unlike its counterparts elsewhere, the Toyota parts guy here is nice. If you supply the part number, he confirms with his catalog before calling the warehouse or placing a purchase order to Japan.

The switch was available, and it took 45 days for the other parts to arrive. Here is a shot of the cowl wires and the fog light.

On each side of the engine bay there is a socket for the light. This is the left side.

And this is the right side.

Connecting the fog lights to the wires is plug and play.

Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of the switch. It
is wired to the main light switch, no splicing is needed.

It is easy to bolt the lights on to the bumper. This is how they look.

This picture is from a trip last weekend. I ended up stuck in this riverbed minutes after the picture was taken. However, I managed to get out of there.

These lights do very well on foul weather and fog, which are frequent in the places I go to. Although it is possible to use a 35 W halogen lamp, I am considering a LED upgrade.

i wonder if i found the wiring under my dash for it and hooked my spot lights up to it ,if the park lights or head lights have to be on for the fog lamp button to work

Judging by the factory wiring diagram, yes, the fog light circuit is connected to the Taillight switch, and will not operate independently of the Taillights (park lights).

Though it does go from the TAIL fuse, through the switch, to both fog lights, so I would run a relay at the light end(s) of the circuit, to get power to the lights directly from the battery, rather than through the in-cab switch.

Hello,

In fact these lights are connected to the tail light switch, and do not operate independently. The fuse is the TAIL one, yellow, 20A on my truck.

I have also found a socket for a "power outlet box" next to the battery. A planned upgrade is this device. I do not like to make splices that might mess with the electrical system.

Thanks Clint. When I removed the central dash frame (the one over the air conditioner controls) I found a socket. It was the same as the switch and connected right on. There is another socket, quite likely for the rear window defogger: the rear doors have the connectors. Maybe anoter upgrade, one of these days.

You should have the fog lights connection socket as well.

They are a rectangular fog light as well.

They seem to work well, and have 85 watt H3 globes.

Might have to chase up the factory switches to suit.

The factory switch installs neatly on any of the four spaces below the A/C controls. I met this guy who uses three factory switches for his spotties on his Cruiser, and I like how it looks.
