am about to drop my new 700r4 and 4spd transfer case into my 40 and am unfamiliar with the choices fro flywheel and torq converter. this is my first tranny swap and purchase. it is all going behind my 327 for now, and eventually a built 350/383. can somebody please recommend the necessary parts needed for me to get these items in?? including the basics you may assume i already know of..

thanks you all!

you can buy the flexplate at any decent auto parts store. no need to go for an sfi approved unit, that's extra money you don't need to spend. a flexplate should cost $20 or less. make sure you loctite the bolts holding it to the crank and the bolts holding the converter to the flexplate as well.

you can call john @ transtar at 800-991-0117 tell him i sent you. that's where i used to work. they sell any transmission component you can think of including the flexplate, converter and bolts.

you can buy the crank bolts at the dealer or from summit and places like that. i know mr.gasket sells them thru the speed shops........

was curious about sizes, stalls, all the diff specs that surround the diff parts i need too

Stock GM components work the best, the stuff you would use in a daily driver. High stall rates and tranny shift kits may work ok for street racing, but wait until you go into low range and/or try to idle up a rocky creek bed!!

Downey is right on stock stuff ,however after building lots of chev 4x4s from sbc to bbc ive found a 1800 stall works the best for DD and off road. It doesnt create alot more heat than stock.A trans cooler is a must anyway you go.Any higher stall will create a lot more heat and i dont recomend it.

i was thinking 1800-2200...now can someone provide me with some sizes or part #s for the flywheel and torq converter? thanks

Its a flex plate, and any auto parts store can get you one. You,ll have to make sure of your crank balanceing.ie is it a stock 327 .or a 350 made into a 327.If its a stock 327 the same flex plate will work on a stock 350.But if their is a 305 crank in their(which i doubt)it will have to be externally balanced(through the flex plate). So many variables with the SBC but if you know its stock and you know the year of the motor order the flex plate, new crank bolts and converter bolts .

nicely put guys...perfect
