I have a 68 fj40 and want to swap in a floor shifter for the transfer case. Any ideas on what Years or other hassles to look for ? You helped me through Mini Truck Pwr Steer swap (1/2 day my ass :flipoff2:)Hopefully this swap will be easier.

You need to get the shifter stuff from a floor shift T case, By shifter stuff I mean the actuall shift lever, and the linkgage. etc.
All 4 speeds have them I know. and you need to get the nose cone from a 4 speed t case. SOR sells kits to do it.

Try a search for it. I know it has been covered before.

If your looking for a donation site for the old column shift and vaccum shift crap I'll gladly take it. I want to keep hold of all this kinda stuff to keep it available for those of us wanting to do resto work instead of reno work.

Travis, the scraps are yours. Was 4-speed and 3-speed trans cases an option in 68 ?

What trans do you have?

68 should have a three speed trans.

The pieces you are looking for can be had from many of the parts houses that deal in the Land Cruiser.

There is no reason that you will need to change your front output(nosecone) on the t-case, as the vaccum piece will unbolt, and the mechanical housing piece bolts right in its place. Be aware that there are a couple different acctuation shafts used in these housings, depending on what transfer control linkage you decide to go with. Try to get everything from one trans/t-case assembly if you can..

Good luck!
