I bought a 3 ton hydraulic floor jack, when I did the springs on my 60. I have used it a few times to change tires, but now it wont lift the axle. it elevates when there is no load, but under the axle it just sits there. there is fluid, and it feels like its working, but no go.
is it repairable, or should I just throw it out. it was only about 100 bucks, but damn...it should last more than a few years

Probably O-rings. Some are rebuildable. Worth a shot.

Mine's over ten years old, I wish it'd fail so I could buy a nice aluminum floor jack. The newer ones have some nice features. There are some out there that use compressed air or hand pump, but I can't find them.

My harbor freight one is a POS. No control on lowering it, and it leaks (and slowly lowers). Anybody know if there is a rebuild kit for 'em, or can you just match O-rings at Ace H/W?

Thanks

Also, what kind of oil should I use in the floor jack?

I've used most anything when in a pinch, but they do make a hydraulic jack oil.

mine is about 20 years old............ heavy piece of s*** and just won't die so I can buy a nice new light weight one:frown:

This site sells parts to repair the bottle jack in your floor jack. Lots of good jack info there. I rebuilt a Walker bottle jack at one point with parts from these guys. Hydraulic jack fluid goes in them.

The website says they no longer deal in parts and seals for jacks. :frown:

Don't that beat all. Now we're stuck with disposable junk jacks. What a shame.

Unless another site starts up...
