Good idea to also check all your body drains. Otherwise the next time it rains if they're clogged then you'll have water coming up from under the carpet...that wouldn't be good! Had that happen to me after a deep water crossing...
But other than that, great job and nice fast acting! Daggum jeeps :p...

When entering a water crossing the nose of the truck is typically at a down angle and tends to "shovel" the water in front. If it's deep enough and/or you're going fast enough it will push water right into the air intake and cause hydro lock. Snorkel is good.

Cabin air pressure can keep the water intrusion rate down as well... all windows closed and recirc air tends to increase the cabin air pressure which will SLOW the intrusion rate. Parking in water like the OP tends to achieve his result.

Great that he was able to recover with minimal damage.

Well at the risk of piling on the Monday morning quarterback stuff, another option there in addition to backing up would have been attach 2 tow straps together, so you could have stayed warm and dry up on the beach.. sometimes in the heat of the moment that's not always obvious, but it's easy to do and without using a shackle- which makes it just as safe as just one strap.

If we are going to play armchair quarterback the jeep never should have gone in the damn river!

Well done on the quick recovery. I have been through some deep water but never stuck like that. I would say of all the things you can do offroad in a 100, getting stuck in deep water like that is my #1 fear. Next to flopping it
