Issue: 1969 non funtioning Flasher

If anyone has ever tried to track down anything electrical under the dash before let me start out by saying its no fun. I took the FJ40 out for a run last week and went to use my flashers (random fun with my buttons) and noticed they went out after only a few seconds. I am easily annoyed by non funtioning items and usually have to get them working.

I bought a new flasher relay unit (which I had to convert since 1969 relays are no longer availible.) then when that didnt work I tested the switch (which tested good). still nothing.......now extremely frustrated I then went to the manual and found the electrical diagram. Lo and behold there is a small (piss me off sized) fuse under the dash. So back out to the rig, took out the heater, most of the hoses and an hour later upside down in my rig I got the fuse out.

Once I replaced the fuse I had no problems at all and the flashers work great. So if you didnt know or even if you did, let me tell you the fuse under the dash is a #%$% to find.

Upgrade to a Painless or Quick-wire harness and be done with that old crap;)

Yes it is hard to find. Most folks have no clue it's even there. ;)
See pics for it's location. Just follow the wire bundle coming off the fuse block. It's right where that brach of the harness joins the main harness.

Mine is a clear plastic holder so you can see the fuse inside.

As an aside, do you have the old flasher still? I would be interested in it if you would ship it to me on my dime? I'm working on a web page about how the flashers really work. :hmm:

my 67 goes through flasher units every couple of months is that normal? I do live on dusty bumpy back roads, and have to bend the ears on the flasher unit to get it to plug into the female end of the harness. Any way that I can eliminate this problem?

I think I just tossed the origional flasher away. I will have my wife check to see if its still in the garage. I am in Alaska right now and the rig is in Oregon. I'f I still have it I dont mind shipping it to you. Its more than likely still good since the fuse went out and not the flasher.
