I posted this in the 80-section but got no replies, trying here now. Alright first up I gots no back up lights. No power to lights when in rev. I also do not have a working dash trans indicator.
The truck is a 91 with a 97 5.7L vortec and the trans is obviously the 4L60e, for now I am assuming both are from the same donor truck.
Since it is a 97 the switch is located on the LHS of the trans, where everything else is at besides the vss. Previous 4L60e's it was found on the trans shifter. I think the grey or green (depends what wiring diagram I look at) are for the back up lights. Now the Cruiser I do believe the switch is in the engine bay against the firewall and it controls both the lights and the dash trans position. I am not exactly sure but I believe this was ran by the stock trans ECU. Obviously I am not using that as I am using the stock 4L60e controller.
I am not exactly sure where the 4L60e harness is going besides to the ECU which is located behind the glove box. It runs on top of the trans so a bit hard to get at or see. Regardless it is easy enough to get at the grey or green power wire for back up lights in this harness.
I would like to keep things simple yet also keep as much stock as possible but I need some back up lights badly. I know I can try and rig up a switch on the shifter or even more crude a switch on the dash. However, I would rather not do that and also it would be nice to get back the dash trans position if possible too.
I am thinking I can run the power wire from the 4L60e to the stock Cruiser switch in the engine bay. Just not sure if I should try the yellow wire coming in or the red-blue heading out of the switch. For a manual trans it is showing yellow coming in.
A touch more info, the truck retains the stock 80 shifter, I do not have an aftermarket and don't really want one. The stock lockout switch seems to be working just fine. The rear light housings, the back up lights sockets have been burned at some time. The plastic is melted all around the sockets on both sides. This concerns me and makes me wonder if a p/o tried to get them working and farked it up. I would rather not do the same or worse burn up my truck. I didn't do the conversion or I would know more.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers
