I’ve put about 800 miles on my new to me 1991 FJ80.

I replaced the fusible Link with a new factory unit about 100 miles ago.

Today when the car was hot after a 20 mile drive; when I turned the key nothing engaged, no solenoid, no starter. Check engine light was on in acc position

I let it sit for another 5 min and it started right up. It's a new battery from January 2024.

No click from the solenoid. I'm thinking to drive it as is and if this issue happens again I will manually jump the starter. If it does not start that way I can confirm a bad starter. I'm thinking starter solenoid; may go the ford remote relay route....

Thoughts ?

@jonheld is the man for this stuff. I did my fusible links, but in the end it was my EFI relay that just kept getting too hot. I replaced mine with the Camry relay and it hasn't had the issue in like 6 years. If you search his posts you'll eventually find the link to his site that has a 3fe tune up guide as well as a guide for no start.

The starter circuit has nothing to do with any EFI related component.

If you're not getting a good solid "thump" from the starter solenoid, then either the starter logic circuit has an issue or the solenoid plunger could be binding on 33 years of old grease and crap that has accumulated in the bore.

If the starter is original, then it is far past time to replace the contacts and plunger and give it a good cleaning and lube. There are many threads regarding this and OEM parts are available from Toyota.

The logic side of the starter circuit is fairly simple:
Battery positive/fusible link AM1/fuse AM1/ignition switch/neutral start switch/starter solenoid.

Verify that you're getting +12 to the solenoid terminal when trying to crank.
The neutral start switch is a likely point of failure. When the issue occurs, you can try shifting into neutral as opposed to PARK, but if the internal wiper in the switch is severely pitted or the 2 small springs that keep it in contact with the terminals are broken or damaged it may not help.
The NSS also runs the dash tally lamps for the gear selection. If you're getting intermittent gear selection tally lamps, that's a good indication that the NSS is faulty.
