I would like to make a new master control switch for my 62. Has anyone done this? I need someone that knows switches to find some for me that would work. I have a friend who can help me with the wiring; so i just need the switches. Hopefully I can fit them into the stock panel.

I was looking for some illuminated ones from mcmaster but need to find out if they will work. They are on page 832 under the heavy duty rocker switches. They are the forth ones down under the illuminated switches section.

I intend on doing full writeup for you guys because I know others will want to do this mod.

I built a switch panel a few years ago and it was a bit of a challenge. The wiring was not the slightest bit intuitive and took quite a while to reverse engineer the switches. And once I had them built the rest of the switches in the truck did not work. The signals from the other switches runs through the drivers panel, I could never find switches that allowed for this.

But I did make my own panel using DPDT switch gear, not traditional power window switches. I started the design process of building a relay panel that would allow all of the switch stations to work, but then I remembered that it was a 20 y/o beater trail truck...

I was thinking trying to get a 80 master switch and arm rest and upgrading that way. I not sure if the wiring might be the same.

Is there a reason?

I am slightly interested but I get turned off quick when I see Import Silvia's response. I don't like our old master switch panel. My window lock switch has given out and it's looking raggedy. An 80's series upgrade would be really nice.

If youre careful in the disassembly process(not loosing pieces or knocking out of its proper location before identifing where it goes), you can clean the contacts within the master switch console pretty easily. I did this on both FJ62's I used to own and prior to, windows would sporadically not work, or travel slower than the rising sun. with some contact cleaner, emory cloth, and some metal polish it worked like new. resist the temptation to file down the contacts(you will see what I mean when you see the blackened contact points) this leads to a rough surface and will cause arcing which will result in quickly deteriorating to previous condition of inoperability. fine emory cloth and metal polish will result in a smooth but clean contact. A little di-electric grease and reassembly.

Hear Hear - I did this and it speed up my windows & sorted out my central locking (only used to unlock, but didn't lock)

you can probably get a cheap used 80 series master switch and arm rest from cruiserparts.net
