OK I have done my research on this, read the thread about the broken mounts, but that is not my situation. My transmission makes a clacking sound only after things warm up, and only when in gear. While driving if I slip it into neutral and rev the motor the noise is not there. It sounds not neccesarily rythmic, but it seems to repeat,,, not dat dat dat dat dat dat, but more like dat dat dat dut dat dat dat dut dat dat dat dut almost like a bolt from the filter was bouncing around in the pan if there was no fluid in the pan

Last winter (why does this always happen in the cold and rain) the breather hose came loose from the filler line and the trans sucked up some mud, the 62 would drive 6.5 miles then the transmission would start slipping and not drive (I did this for 2 trips) anyway, I pulled the cover and the filter was totally clogged with debris, mostly mud looking sheet, I guessed the pump was starved hence the no drive

there was 3 chunks of what I think were clutches, smaller than a pencil eraser, but I dont know what that would really look like....
we cleaned everything and refilled it and it drove like a champ for 8 months, then one day this clacking started,, I have pulled the pan and there were no chunks, but lite metal dust on the 2 magnets I have in the pan

I installed an aftermarket cooler in 05
the guy that did that did the pan pull, clean and reinstall last year used way too much rtv for a gasket and I am afraid it has clogged my aftermarket and radiator based coolers, could the pump being backed up cause this noise? I plan on doing the rodney flush (basically draining it from a cooler hose while running and refilling it until it runs pretty) when I drained it last week I got probably 7-8 quarts out of it but the dipstick showed I had the right amount of fluid, I thought the manual said 5.7 qt

does anyone know what this noise is, is my pump going out, is there a broken clutch?? or possibly a broken spring? the odometer says 305k, I do not know if the PO did anything to the tranny, I have dino fluid in it with some Lucas, there is no clunk when going from fwd to rev, although 2 years ago I hit fwd/rev without coming to a complete stop,,,, and she shift wonderfully esp for the miles, no leaks, no other major issues ever (once she got hot enough for the light to come on, 5 years ago bc the radiator cooler got blocked up)

any ideas?
anyone else have this happen?

Do the Rodney flush now:)

And never use RTV ...only Permatex in very small amounts...only if you need to.

I used the Lucas tranny treatment and had to dump it cause it is to thick for colder climates

Sounds like you have some damage :frown:

turned out it was sticky engine valves, I drove it 300 miles a few weeks ago to cullowhee without a problem
