ALright, i've searched a bunch for this and know that its probably been asked 1000 times, and i should know this especially for owning a Cruiser for 9 years, but i cant seem to dig up the answer anywhere...

Are the FJ62 Transfercases the same size as the 4/85 and up split cases? for example: if one throws an H55F in his 62 and saves the 62 transfer case, will the driveshafts from an 87 still bolt up without length modifications? Just finished converting my 87' Toyota Cressida into a 5-speed and im itching to do the same thing here on my 89'..... thanks in advance..

FJ62 is a auto box the 60 is mannual differnet lengths TC is the same split case.
Drtiveshaft should be close just measure the shaft on a 62 and a 60 for your answer

I know the differences in 60 and 62's, what im asking is can the FJ62 transfercase be used in an H55F 5-speed swap with the same late model 60 driveshafts?

For example: if i pull a Transfer case from the rear of an 87 FJ60, and pull mine from my 89 FJ62, will they be the same length? I was going to buy a FJ60 with a blown engine for cheap and just yank the parts off myself, but if i can just use my transfercase that I already have and keep my vacuum 4WD control, then i'll just order the parts from cruiserparts.net and save the hassle of towing the jalopy to my garage and have to deal with hauling the hazardous remains away!

Rebuild kit is the same for a late 60 and 62. I'm under the impression that they are identical other than the actuator for front drive (and a couple of position switches I suppose).

Hell yeah! thats answers it! thanks!

The rebuild kits are different in that auto transfer cases have needle bearings under the output gears.

Other than that, they are pretty much the same thing. Can you use an auto case on an H55F? I dunno, never needed to do it, but the front case half would need to have the 5th gear oiler cup location in the casting.

I'm sure that it goes on, Man-a-fre has pictures of FJ62 cases mounted to H55s it on thier website.,i'll have to do more research on this to see how it all fits together... i don't imagine it would be rocket science, probably just a few minor modifications... I just figure that if i could just use the transfercase i already have, then why go screw with buying a used one from someone in god only knows what condition? thanks for your help!
