Hi, Take it by ATR transmissions in Little Rock, talk to Jake. He worked on ours when I lived in Ark. I frequently flush my Fj- 62 and fj -80. With my rigs towing and working still at 250,000-325,000 miles I have no problems with correct flushing. Mike

Problem is I can't drive the cruiser now bc it's slipping really bad and I don't have a trailer. I bought the 62 with 260k+ on it and probably have put a couple thousand on it since owning for the past few months. I'm not sure if the trans had ever been flushed before, so I guess I won't start now. I'll just drop the pan, clean the filter and refill it.

Do y'all really thing this could help it not slip? I drove it yesterday from the parking lot it sat in about a mile to my buddies house and it did fine. Then once I got on his side road I changed the gear selector down to 1, 2, 3 and going through the gears and it was slipping pretty bad so I parked it. I guess this is a cheap thing to try first before trying to find a spare.

check the fluid when it is warmed up and running first. Make sure it has the correct amount. My experience with the A440 is that they are very sensitive to fluid levels.

Drain and fill plus filter change made a big difference in mine, don't know if it will in your case but it is worth a shot.

Yea I had even checked the fluid on Friday and it seemed fine. Made a 80+ mile journey out to some local trails and back and not a glitch. Then yesterday it starts acting up. It does have a weird squealing noise at idle and increases with the revs. Didn't make the noise before. We'll see what the fluid change does...

Thanks again for all the help guys

This post is a little old so I'm not sure if you've corrected the issue, but I had run into a very similar situation with my 'new to me' 1990 fj62. I would intermittently have the same squealing going on. When this happens, it would shift really hard between gears and at a really high rpm. I climb a pretty decent hill coming home from work everyday and have 33's with stock gearing which requires me to get on the gas quite a bit from time to time to get up to speed. I realized it happened whenever I had to floor it and wouldn't notice much until I got off the expressway and started off from a light. The fluid was slightly low so I filled but it would still occur. Finally on a whim I checked my diagnostic codes (though I had no check engine light on) and had what I believe was an error 41 for a faulty TPS. I changed that out and made sure my kick down cable was adjusted correctly and I've never had the problem since.
