FJ62 OEM Radio issue - Added Pics!!

Hello

I just bought a '90 FJ62 - and the OEM radio will power on, but no sound comes out of the speakers. PO stated the speakers are fine, just stopped working one day. Has anyone run into this sort of issue before?

Thanks

RJ (Newb)

Have you tried both radio and tape? Could be that the issues is the antenna or antenna connection and not the radio. You might want to consider replacing the OEM with a Scion unit. Almost identical fit - you'll have to trim the face plate on the Scion unit (Pioneer by the way) to fit the stock opening. Use search here and check e-Bay. It's an easy way to keep the stock look and accomodate CD's or iPod connections and is plug-n-play with the stock wiring harness

Those radios are kind of crap anyway...
Upgrade to newer celica etc. or Scion..........easy upgrade

I have the original radio from my '89 FJ62. It worked perfectly when I pulled it out to update to something newer. You can have it for shipping cost if you want it.

I like the OEM look - so maybe i'll do a 4 runner Cd/amp in a bit...(since stereo only says Toyota) - I guess I dont want SCION in my FJ? I checked the knob out - that wasnt it. The antenna is hammered from the outside (should it be automatic - i.e. go up and down with ign.)

I would love the OEM Cullman - I only use IPOD anyway w/tape adapter. PM me? dont know how yet.. I will check back tomorrow (and post a pic since it was asked!)

Thanks

RJ

The antenna is not automatic - it operates from the switch on the center dash only, next to the rear window defogger. If it's not up then that could very well be your problem.

Duh - I didnt physically have the truck before i posted (saw the antenna switch driving home) - The antenna is partially up - antenna motor seems to be working fine - the mast is hammered. I ordered a new mast and will replace it - but i would at least expect to hear static if the radio was working? I havent been able to locate an old tape yet to test the tape portion.....

haha, wont be too far off from what yours will, only my truck has blacked out almost everything, and it will have an old ARB on it, so, its gonna look sweet, i hope.

i started a thread you might like to use for the lift. it will have detailed pictures, and a step-by-step. look forward to doing it... :)

Rocking the FM!

So - replaced the antenna mast (what a pain the azz!) and now i have a working antenna - CullmanCrusier (thanks!) sent me his old radio for shipping $$ - installed that radio and now I have music! I only have a 3 mi commute so didnt need anything fancy...(yet)

Thanks for everyones help (and the search feature!)
