I thought I would share my experience with the neutral start assembly in my 1989 FJ62. A few years ago we replaced it with an OEM part and now all of a sudden have the same issue which is a random connection issue in the harness. When turning the ignition switch the relay in the passenger side clicks but the engine won’t turn over. I have found that by getting under the passenger side and unplugging the blue connector and reconnecting it (yes, it clicks closed) it will then work. Sometimes it can work as normal for ages and the. Suddenly fail again. Simply disconnecting and reconnecting it solves the issue. I have used contact cleaner but that hasn’t fixed the intermittent nature of it. That whole harness does get covered in some kind of oil but I can’t tell where it comes from. I am still trying to figure this out but would listen to any ideas as to how to stop this recurring. Could it be that it needs to be held still rather than hanging so loose? There are 3 connectors but only two of them are in use. 2 are blue and 1 white/clear.

Pull that connector and tug on each wire going into the back on both sides. Could be
A terminal lock tab has broken or was not seated and that that conductor only has a slight contact that may come loose from time to time. My guess would be the issue is on the chassis side of the harness, as you replaced the switch and still have the same issue

Thought I'd come back to this. It turned out that it was the wires attached to the front of the starter. That end of the connection was loose. We fixed that and haven't had an issue since
