I have a '90 FJ62 that starts great in any weather, but not after it's been warmed up. I'm not sure where to start looking, but if I remove the air cleaner, I can feel a flap of some sort up in the intake that when I push open, seems to help. Is this the Mass air flow sensor? What else might I look for?

Yes, that's your air flow meter.

It's just hard to start? or can't start it at all? Any check engine light? Will is start with the pedal floored?

Welcome newb :flipoff2:

Eventually it will start, but it can take some time - as much as 30-40 minutes of cranking. No check engine lights. Haven't tried the pedal to the floor. The truck is on blocks right now getting a lift, knuckle rebuild and tie rod ends. I'll try that once back on the road. Is there any benefit to a high performance ignition system?

A good running 3F is actually pretty peppy in the 62. First thing I'd recommend is to get some crc di-electric grease and go over the engine squirting some into every electrical connection under the hood (all of them!). That alone can have a huge impact on the engine performance.

Does your CEL come on briefly when you first start her? I know my PO solved CEL problems by removing the bulb....

What kind of fuel mileage are you getting? Your cold start fuel injector may be operating when the engine is warm as well.

Once it starts what is the idle speed and is it constant?

this di-electric greese - avialable anywhere? All my previous (3) cruisers were 60's - de-smoged w/ weber carbs, my 80 I never tinkered with, so the fuel injection thing is new to me. What is the CEL and PO?
My mileage sucks, like 11 if I'm lucky. I'd like better, but mileage isn't what draws us to cruisers....
I'll check the cold start injector. Thanks

The grease is available at most any auto parts store.
CEL = check engine light
PO = previous owner, often the worst human being ever. Hitler, Stalin, and Mao shun PO's at the social mixers in hell.

The extra poor mileage points to running rich. You could have a bad O2 sensor too.
