Good Lord, can you imagine having a 1200lb engine in front of your 62? I wonder how long that axle is going to hold up?

The 6bt Cummins engine weighs in at 910# dry, with oil and water 970#. The origional engine weighs in at approx 650#. Not that much wieght diff and I've been running now for over a year, seems to hold up ok.

That may be, but add a clutch, flywheel transmission and youre looking at alot more weight than that truck was ever designed to carry. And a lot more than it came with.

It's going to be interesting to see how these things hold up over time.

I used the origional trans and flex plate so no change there, I'm not too concerned about the extra weight as I am about the extra torque. I dont know how strong the toyo trans is, I pulled the oil pan off the trans and inspected the internals and it looks plenty tough, time will tell.

It would seem he is using a stock auto trans... so all Isee is an aluminum adapter ring as "extra" weight. correct me if I'm wrong

I wouldn't be too worried aout the weight on the front axle... I used to jump my old SOA cruiser with a 2F, Bull Bar & 8274... no problem with the front axle.

I think you'll be fine with the stock power & fiarly conservative driving habits.. setup should last a long time. The Auto's are notoriuosly tough so you should not have any problem.

my money is on that POS trans going out first.. I think that era cuimins (160hp/400ft/lbs) is probably fine for the rest. Also that trans sucks about 30-50% of torque out of a 3FE, my guess is the same wit hthe Cummins to an extent..

I don't understand the engine mounts. Are they air bags or liquid filled mounts?
The engine mounts are a rubber based mount very similar to origional, I made frame mount out of 1/4" plate and welded in. The cushions you see are air bags between the axle and frame. I took the rubber bumper stops out and put air bags in, run them with a small air compressor. Lifts the rig and gives it a good ride.

Your front axle will be fine no worries on that at all. I prob have that much weight on the front of my rig with out a cummins... I wheel hard too. Good job putting all that together.

Can you show documentation for that?

a few people have been asking about running airbags on there cruisers, can you give us a little more info on them. ride quality, articulation, cost, where you bought them from, what cadillac for compressor, etc.

thanx, and good looking rig!

no but I heard it on the internet so it must be true. Seriously, I have driven auto FJ62s and one that was converted to standard and it was like night and day powerwise. If I had a FJ62, #1 mod for me would be a H55F, before an engine swap or anything else IMO...

Hi Dave, I stopped and talked to you a couple of times about your 40 and the 6AT. I hadn't seen your 62 at your shop... Are you still working there? Nice job on the conversion... if you had an intercooler do you think it would fit?

Doesn't the propane cool/consdense your intake air as well?

Kief, Yes I still work here at Withams. I park in rear of building, next to freeway. I drive my 62 daily, really like it, stop by and take a look.

The air bags are for the rear cab mount on a Freigtliner truck, can be bought at any Freightliner truck parts dept. Actually all trucks are running air ride cabs now so could get bags at Peterbuilt or Kenworth to. I dont know what year Cadillac ran air compressors, this one was given to me by my neibor, I think he said was mid 80's. I think one of the portable air compressors that plug into a cig lighter would work to. I would hard wire it tho.The bags run approx $60 each. The ride is sweet.

Do you have any better pictures of the engine mounts? Did you have to fabricate drop mounts to compensate for the larger height of the 6BT?

As for springs, I know you are running the airbags, but are the springs stockers?
