Do you have any better pictures of the engine mounts? Did you have to fabricate drop mounts to compensate for the larger height of the 6BT?

As for springs, I know you are running the airbags, but are the springs stockers?

Springs are stock, yes I engineered my own mounts, if a person went with an intercooler the engine could actually sit higher because the turbo crossover wouldnt be there. I considered it but didnt want the extra cost until I saw how the conversion worked out. Also where it sits now the trans is real close to body tunnel, had to do a minor modification to make it clear in one spot, big hammer worked pretty good.

Do you know how much higher it sits from stock?
Thanks
Jonathan

The engine mounts are a rubber based mount very similar to origional, I made frame mount out of 1/4" plate and welded in. The cushions you see are air bags between the axle and frame. I took the rubber bumper stops out and put air bags in, run them with a small air compressor. Lifts the rig and gives it a good ride.

Gotcha, thats a wierd angle on that one photo.

no but I heard it on the internet so it must be true. Seriously, I have driven auto FJ62s and one that was converted to standard and it was like night and day powerwise. If I had a FJ62, #1 mod for me would be a H55F, before an engine swap or anything else IMO...

Who makes the h55f and is it an overdrive? Might be interested if the auto doesnt hold up.

The H55F is a Toyota transmission and it is an overdrive transmission. You can buy one at any dealer.
The swap is about $2500-$3000 if you have to source the parts - plus labor. I don't believe the overdrive is as high as the overdrive in the A440F. So you will be turning more RPMs with the H55F than you would with the A440F.

not worth it in my opinion. H55F may hold up but it is not heavy duty like a good rebuilt NV4500 or a brand new one. Also cheaper, all the Dodge stuff bolts up. $500 adapter from Advance Adapters to allow it to bolt to your stock transfer case. That is the route I would take if you do an auto..

a440f auto transmission behind a diesel!

I used the toyo auto trans and still has stock axles. Has been running for over a year and seems to hold up ok. Just trying to get better highway speed and economy, when I keep the rpm down I get close to 30mpg but am turning about 2300 rpm to do 55, would like to get down around 16 to 1700 rpm.

how is the diesel and auto transmission running?

good to hear someone did it with a lot of the stock gear.

What kind of bolt pattern conversion did you have to do?

I am looking at hooking up a 4bd1T isuzu to the toyota auto transmission A440F.

The engine and trans is working good, do some mud crawling but mainly use my rig for hunting and fishing. I like the toyo gearing because it seems to be pretty tough, I used a dodge manual trans bell housing and adapted it to the trans. the toyo auto trans has a bolt on bell housing so made an adapter ring and welded it into the dodge housing. If I ever have trans problems will probably go with a manual trans. This one seems to be working pretty good tho.

isuzu to toyo a440f

great to hear your 6bt-a440f is running well.

could i do that same set up - bellhousing marriage with an isuzu 4bd1t, and the a440f?

here is the engine and bellhousing of the isuzu

the tranny is not ideal perhaps but it has a good overdrive, and has been in the truck for 250,000 miles and counting!

would you have a photo of this bellhousing you crafted?

Do you have basic dementions for a 6bt? Hight, width, length, motor mount orientation?
Thanks

The motor mounts are just forward of center, length is equivelent to the 3fe, a little taller, my hood insulation just touches the turbo crossover, an air cooled engine wouldnt have that problem. It isnt any wider than the 3fe, I actually have room on both sides. The vacuum pump does sit off on the left side so had to space my steering gear out an inch, otherwise fit right in. Rad back in the same mounts and rear trans mount back in the same holes.

Didnt take a picture of it out of chassis, I dont see why you wouldnt be able to adapt to your bell housing, need a machine shop and a good welder. The toyo has a bolt on bell housing on the auto so should work. Good luck
