So this morning I go out to drive to work. I fire up the Land Cruiser. Everything seems normal.

I get out on the street, and it seems like it's taking FOREVER to get up to 25 - 30mph. I stop at a stoplight. When the light turns green, once again, it feels like it just won't go. It actually felt like it was starting out in like 3rd gear or something . . . just complete lack of power. I put the trans in "L", and tried to see if manually shifting the trans would make a difference. It didn't.

I have to drive about 5 miles before I get to the freeway. It had plenty of time to warm up. By the time I got to the freeway entrance, it still didn't feel any better. I turned around, went back home, and drove the Tacoma to work today.

Any advice? Please!

The previous owner had the trans rebuilt about a year and a half ago (by AAMCO) . . . Torque converter, maybe?

Sound like your transmisson just went. Usually 1st gear and reverse go when a transmisson go bad. I would check your trans fluid to see if there is any metal in it. my 2cents

How is the fluid level? Does it look burnt, or abnormal? What does it do in reverse? Service history?

Bummer if it suddenly went like that, but a good excuse to do a manual swap.

Plus-torque converters don't really go instantly bad. It soulds like yours is trying to start in 2nd. I missed the bit about the Aamco rebuild, and so bad tranny went way up on my list of possibilities.
