the pulley for my a/c is squealing. when i turn on the a/c it goes away. i think the clutch might be on its way out. is there any way to test or diagnos it. i have the FSM but it does not cover troubleshooting. any thoughts ? thanks

The clutch just engages or dis-engages the compressor. If it does that it's OK.

If there is squealing I'd first suspect a loose belt and then an idler bearing.

There is a bearing in the A/C clutch unit.
When the A/C is turned OFF, the clutch pulley is rotating on that bearing.
When the A/C is turned ON and the clutch is engaged, the clutch pulley is rotating on the compressor bearings.

If there is a sqeal from the A/C clutch when the A/C is off and it goes away when the A/C is turned on, then it is most likely the clutch bearing making the noise.

I would check for loose belts before doing anything else.

clutch bearing

whats the  rating for replacing the clutch bearing. i'll check the belt tightness and get back to you fellas

You'll need some good snap ring pliers and make SURE you don't disconnect the A/C hoses. It shouldn't be too hard to do. If you disconnect the A/C hoses you'll have a recharge bill to add to everything else (not something that should be attempted by the average backyard mechanic).
