FJ60 Tranny problem. (1 Viewer)

HI everybody,
Ya''l have helped me before and I hope you can do it again. My problem is that somehow on my way back from Missouri to Texas I lost all of my transmission fluids. When I finally stopped and heard a squeland it was 2am with no stores in site. SO when I made it home I slept and then today I checked the trans fluid and there was nothing in there. I went and got trans fluid and filled it up with a little under 3 quarts of fluid. The squel has not gone away and I am afraid I have thoroughly destroyed my transmission. Here are my questions:
1. What did I do and how do i keep it from happening again?
2. How much will the parts cost to fix it and could I possibly do it myself? New/used tranny or parts
3. How long approximately can I drive before I end up on the side of the road?

Sounds like the trany is toast. Just buy a use one. There are many around. I would also look at the TC and rebuild it at the same time.

Thanks for the help guys,
I went and asked around and every one agrees it's my tranny. I am in the process of looking for one and hope I can get one for relatively cheap. How will i know if a tranny is any good? Is there any way of telling if a tranny will last? Any help would be appreciated

I know that Gary Kardum at Mudrak has a pile of FJ60 4 speeds. You should be able to get one for little or nothing, as quite a few people are going to the H55F in their 60's.

Question where is Mudrak? and do you think he has and transfercases also for a 1987 fj60 i think mine is going and want a new one and then rebuild the other. Thanks
