I hear you about the tire. One of my goals is after a long day of wheeling is to be able to park, crawl into the back and go to sleep. maybe stretch a tent over the rear end at most. I want to avoid the set up and tear down of camp every night. In addition I have a large 3500 watt inverter, two 300AH batteries, air compressor, tools, and spare parts box to go into the back on both sides under and above shelves yet to be installed. There is not a lot of room left inside for anything but me. On the other hand to put it on the rear outside I would have my rear view blocked mostly by the tire or have it hang down to low and catch on things (been there before). besides I made myself a promise this time I would have my winch stuff (D hooks, snatch blocks, remote, gloves etc.) in ammo boxes under the headlights near the winch and tow gear ( Straps, tree saver, cables, chains, etc.) in ammo boxes on the rear gate. I want to avoid crawling around inside of the back gathering my gear while precariously hanging on the edge of a cliff or about to roll down a steep stump filled clear cut. Those things need to be at the ready incase of emergency. In addition its nice to be able to swing out my rear gates and drop my tailgate and shelves and slide out my stove, BBQ, water can, and kitchen box onto the shelves and again not to have to lift anything but still be ready for camp in a second. When I finish the exocage I have a slide mount designed for the tire that will pull out over the side and hinge down to rest against the side of the cage and put the tire at waist height for easy removal. That might work for 40's but they are dang heavy, I would need help I think.

Now That I own this truck, named it "Squatch, and put about $27K into it I would love to know more about its history. If anyone knows where it has come from, who did any mods to it before I bought it, what trails it has seen, etc. I would love to know. If anyone has before and after photos Id love to see them as well. A parts truck (FJ55 bobbed) I bought for this "Squatch" project has had a famous past including being on TV I found out. That truck has had a colorful history and 2 rebuilds since I sold it as well. It was obvious when I bought "Squatch" that it had been heavily off roaded before my time. I'm sure there are some interesting stories behind all those dents, scrapes, and the 5 gallons of sand I scooped out of the rear quarter panels.

Id reconsider putting a bunch of junk on the roof. Itll be a huge pain to get it up and down and all of the cog lowering the sway bars got you will be offset by weight up high...

The exo will not help too much either but this is coming from someone whos on the verge of makin something to protect his roof so take it with a grain of salt.

I vote for tons to get the cog even lower and a set of 44s.

D
I have had a second thought about putting more gear on the roof. My friend has a Samari with ski racks bolted to the hood that holds his axe and shovel. This works out great. I am now looking for some cheap used ski clamps to bolt to my hood for my axe, shovel, and bow saw.

I have had transfer case noise and vibration since installing OME heavy duty springs in the rear, so I am now adding a double Cardan joint in the rear to help this out. Does anyone make a double Cardan joint with FJ60 bolt pattern? In addition I had to remove my anti wrap bar as it was binding with the new springs. Seems ok without it. My front left spring is starting to sag now too so Ill be replacing them as well when money allows. It never ends.

Whether the DC shaft solves your vibration issue will depend on the geometry of the truck and it should be predictable.

If the pinion points right at the t-case output, it should help. If it points anywhere else, it won't.

Good luck!

There is a 7 degree difference. This might be too much.
Well its been a few years of build now. Runs and drives great on the road, will climb trees off road, comfortable for camping couldn't be happier. The exocage is not finished and little things I never quite got to but its a solid rig now. But! I lost my job, its costing me to store every month, I need money so its for sale. I started out at $9800 a few months ago but am down to $5K now. Its a pity knowing how much money and time I have into it. But necessity and all that. There is an add in Craigslist for Arlington WA. I love land cruisers so I will get another one someday. but for now Squatch has to find a new home:( I hope its a happy one.

Well I sold Squatch to a guy from Cal. Ill let him identify himself.
He seems like he will give it a good home. He says he will keep up this thread with future builds and adventures of "the Squatch" I hope he does.
He says he will drop in a V8 with an automatic and Danna 60's. I wonder if he knows an FJ62 Auto trans will bolt in?
Its been fun and Ill own another land cruiser in the future. next time my 5th Land Cruiser will be a 97 Lexus.
The torch has been passed.
