Hello All-
Does anyone have issues with FJ60 front seat rail rattles? I've switched out the bushings in the seat hinges and the actual rails twice. But I can't get the seat rattle noise to go away. If someone sits in the seat, no problem. Not too many passengers in my rig on a regular basis though. It seems to be play in the rails (or rail) that I can't find any solutions for. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

On the rails themselves there is a small pin that sits in a hole that is slightly bigger than the pin. Thats what causes the seat to rattle. If you could find a brass bushing thats pretty much the ID of the hole, and has an internal hole that is the ID of the pin you could press it on there and take up the slack.

Its not something thats worn out. Its how the seats are designed. Maybe there was a bushing there at one point but thats what causes the seat to rattle when no one is sitting in it. Your seat is literally moving forward and backwards on the rail by 1-2 mm every bump because of this pin

not quite the same problem but my drivers seat rail had a bit of consistent chirp noise when driving, not quite a "rattle". I was able to slide a small piece of auto felt tape on the side of the rail which seems to have stopped the problem for now.

I definitely have this issue. I'll look into that pin as mentioned. I don't think that seat has moved in 5 years so I have considered welding the rails, but a bushing would be better.

Wow, really? This damn thing drives me batty!!

Is there a pin/hole on each rail? & where on the rail is this?

Thanks so very much!

Man it’s been like 3 years since I’ve had my seat rail off but it’s on the long flat part of the rail. The parts that slide together. If you take the rail off the seat and wiggle it around my hand it’s really really easy to find

Always wondered about this. With nobody sitting in the front seats they can tilt forward/back about 3/8” and that’s the source of the rattle. I need to dig into this now that folks are talking about it.

A novel and practical approach that ive used for decades WITHOUT Fail.

@dbbowen are you talking about the seat front to back adjuster? Finally getting eyes on mine, passenger seat rattles and moves when no one in it. There is lots of play in the furthest back position for the seat because It probably spent most of his life there. I think the rectangular lock hole is worn. If I move it one click forwards It's tight and closer towards the front it's really tight! So the pin is not worn but the hole is. Other than welding and trying to file it back out so everything is tight, I may just leave it one click forwards from full back at this point. Still thinking I might just tack weld the rails deleting the adjustment feature?
Other than that I took a pic of the rollers inside the two slides.

On mine there was this little pin. Like 1-2 mm that went up through a hole in the sliders thats what was causing the movement on mine
